The Clear Lake volleyball team ended their regular season on Thursday, Oct. 13, on a high note, as they blanked Iowa Falls-Alden 3-0.
The Lions opened the night with a strong first set, topping the Cadets 25-12.
“We really came out ready to play,” said Coach Heather Johnson. “We struggled a bit in the second set. We made too many unforced errors and just didn’t play crisp.”
The Cadets battled hard in the second set, but it was the Lions that prevailed in a two-point, 26-24, victory.
Clear Lake’s response to almost losing the second set, pushed them hard in the third set, as they dominated with a 25-5 win.
Xada Johnson had an impressive night on offense with 21 kills and four aces from the service line. On defense, she had one blocked shot and nine digs.
Hannah Blaha recorded six kills, followed by Ayla Johnson with five.
Setting up the hits were freshman Liv Paine with 19 assists and Carsyn Holland with 11.
Defensive leaders included Makella Jacobs with a team high 14 digs, followed by Holland with 10. Brooklyn Eden had six digs. Lily James led the team in blocks with three and Holland and Blaha had two blocks apiece.
“Overall, I thought everyone contributed where they needed to and we worked as a team to get that win. It was a really good match to lead us into our post season play,” said Johnson.
The Lions played their first round of regional play at home on Monday, Oct. 17., against Forest City. Forest City defeated the Lions, 3-1. Total results from the match with additional photos will be featured in next week’s Clear Lake Mirror-Reporter.
