Three members of the Clear Lake High School football team have been named to the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association and the Iowa Football Coaches Association 2022 all-state football teams.
Clear Lake senior Kaleb Hambly was the Class 2A First Team selection as a utility player. Hambly recorded a total of 35 solo tackles for the year and 39 assisted tackles during Clear Lake’s 5-5 season. He also had six tackles for loss.
“Kaleb was the force on our defense. He was a tackling machine the QB of our defense,” said Clear Lake Head Coach Jared DeVries.
Sophomores Titan Schmitt and Thomas Meyer were each named to the All-State Second Team.
Schmitt was honored as a fullback/running back. He rushed for a total of 514 yards on the season, an average of 6.3 yards a carry. He also collected eight touchdowns.
Meyer earned his spot on the defensive line. He had a total of 38 tackles, 31 being solo. He also recorded 10 tackles for loss.
Coach DeVries said both players have a very bright future on both sides of the ball.
“Titan had a tremendous year out of the backfield both running and catching,” said Coach Jared DeVries. “Thomas was our best pass rusher and big play threat both on defense and offense.”
Dozens of sports writers and coaches from across the state met either in-person at Dowling Catholic High School or over Zoom to select this year’s teams. The Iowa Print Sports Writers Association was founded in February 2018 to carry on the tradition of newspapers selecting all-state teams for Iowa high school sports.
