The Clear Lake wrestling team wrapped up 2022 with an excellent outing at Dike-New Hartford Saturday. The Lions were scheduled to compete in a double dual Tuesday against Webster City and Clarion Goldfield Dows and the Battle of Waterloo on Friday. Both were called off due to weather. The conference dual meet has been rescheduled for Jan. 19.
“Luckily we were able to go to the DNH duals on Saturday and we made the most of our weekend,” said Coach Evan Johnson. “We went 3-1 during the tournament with wins against South Winn, OABCIG, and DNH. Our lone loss came to Mount Vernon but we went out and did a good job of competing against them. It was a great way to end our 2022 campaign and I am very pleased with where we are at. This looks almost like a completely different team then what we have shown the last few years and they all want to continue to get better. I am excited to see where our journey takes us in 2023.”
The Lions trailed Dike-New Hartford, 36-34, heading into the final match of their dual. Aaron Richtsmeier’s pin at 285 gave Clear Lake a four-point victory. Noah Potter (126), Max Currier (132), Aiden Hippen (138), Tyler LeFevre (145), Christian Dunning (152) and Carter Perry (160) also earned wins in the dual. All but LeFevre won by fall; LeFevre posted a major decision.
Currier went undefeated in the day-long event, winning by fall three times and receiving one forfeit.
Kaleb Hambly (182) recorded three pins in four trips to the mat. Dunning and Richtsmeier also had three wins on the day.
