A winter wallop

A blizzard warning was issued Friday for most of Iowa, as extreme cold combined with high winds for dangerous conditions. Wind chill values were between 35 and 45 below zero at the height of the storm. Strong northwest wind gusts in the 40 to 50 mph range were common and led to the closing of Interstate 35 north and southboud from Clear Lake to Ames Friday afternoon. Southbound lanes at Clear Lake were opened a little after 11 a.m. Saturday.
