Clear Lake was among 27 teams traveling to Oelwein Saturday for a girls wrestling tournament. The top finisher for the Lions was Olivia Fausnaugh, who was third at 155-pounds.
“We faced some tough competition and competed really well,” said Coach Ray McQueen.
Fausnaugh found herself down 0-3 heading into the third period against Jamie Jones, from Sumner-Fredricksburg, but she caught Jones on her back for an important first round pin.
“All of her wins ended with a pin in the third, which is one of her biggest strengths,” said Coach McQueen. “We’re conditioned enough to continue wrestling and that’s just what she did.”
Other placements included: Emery Hippen, seventh at 140; Macey Brant, seventh at 170; Rhi Youmans, sixth at 125B; Zoe Koontz, fourth at 140B; Emma Allie, fifth at 135B; Missy Jones, seventh at 170B.
CL 54, NC Trailblazers 27
On Tuesday, Jan. 10, Clear Lake took on the North Central Trailblazers, a team with members from various North Central Iowa school districts. The Lions came away as 54-27 winners.
Macey Brant, Piper Lester (115), Rhi Youmans (125), Emma Allie (135) and Emery Hippen (140) had wins.
