Wanted: Positive adult interactions with students.
Brandon Borseth, principal at Clear Creek Elementary School, introduced a new student-community initiative during the Clear Lake Evening Lions meeting on March 6. Borseth is looking for adult volunteers willing to spend a lunch period with students once a week.
Recently, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been an increase in students who need more positive interaction with adults, according to Borseth. Their cultural and social environment is considerably different from previous generations. Volunteers are encouraged to share information about their careers and lives and encourage students to strive to achieve when they visit with students.
Borseth hopes to sign up at least 30 volunteers and begin the program by the end of March. The “Connect Program” may be expanded depending on results and support.
