Clear Lake High School was placed in a lockdown Tuesday morning following a phone call to police reporting a shooting.
Following an immediate lockdown and sweep of the building by police officers and administrators, the call was determined to be false.
“This type of call, known as swatting, was reported to be occurring throughout the state today. No one was injured and officers and school staff checked the area,” stated the CLPD.
Clear Lake Schools Superintendent Doug Gee said he is thankful for the police department’s quick and thorough response.
“The call was received at 9:40 a.m., we went into lockdown at 9:41 and at 9:42 police were on-site,” said Gee. “A full sweep of the school was done to be sure no one was in the building that shouldn’t be, doors were locked, etc. and it was determined it wasn’t a credible threat. Safety is the most important thing for us and we take it very seriously. We can’t thank the CLPD enough for their great partnership with us and the response.”
Gee said the police department will continue to regularly monitor the parking lots and school grounds and offered to come in buildings, as well, if the district asks.
“We have been aware of these types of calls statewide and nationwide, but you always have to take these things seriously— and we took it very seriously today,” added Gee. “Our administrative staff will continue to sweep the school looking for anything suspicious.”
