Clear Lake edged Forest City by one point to claim the first-ever North Iowa Girls Indoor Championship run Thursday, March 23, at the Clear Lake Wellness Center.
“The girls are off to a good start to the year,” said Lions Coach Shawn Puttmann. “We do have some girls that are not 100 percent right now. We had some great finishes and some critical races that scored points for the Lions.”
The Lions nabbed five first place finishes, but Coach Puttmann said it was the number of overall placements which lifted the team to the title.
Reese Brownlee, Addison Doughan, Anna Feuerbach and Emily McLaughlin each earned a pair of wins.
Brownlee won the long jump with a mark of 16’10.25” and the 200 meters in a time of 26.44. Doughan broke the tape in the 800 in 2:31.47 and anchored the 4000 meter medley, finishing in 14:06.74. Other members of the winning relay included Emily McLaughlin, Hope Halverson and Anna Feuerbach. Feuerbach was also a member of the 4×800 which won in 11:02.20. The relay also included Rebekah Steinbron, Brooklyn Heesch and McLaughlin.
Clear Lake’s 1600 meter medley relay with Maddie Leisure, Xada Johnson, Lydia Brattrud and Doughan was runner-up in 4:24.70.
Brattrud was also second in the 400 meters in 1:05.61. McLaughlin and Feuerbach were third and fourth respectively in the 1500 meters in 5:24.21 and 5:26.17. Steinbron crossed the finish line in third in the 800 meters in 2:43.79.
“Madi Ott took fourth place in shot (32’9”); Josie Lester gave the Lions a seventh place in the 60 hurdles (11.20); Skye Shaikoski placed eighth in the open 400 (1:20.15); the 4×200 of Maddie Leisure, Avery Puttmann, Lily Lilliberg and Makella Jacobs grabbed a sixth place (2:00.85); the 4×400 took fifth with Rebekah Steinbron, Avery Puttmann, Maddie Leisure, and running in Brownlee’s place was Addie Doughan. These place finishes are critical in gaining team points. I’m looking forward to what the future holds for these athletes,” said Coach Puttmann.
Also contributing to the team total was the shuttle hurdle relay, placing fifth in 43.96. The relay included Mariposa Coleman, Pieper Lester, Payton McGrath and Josie Lester.
