Clear Lake Police Chief Pete Roth has accepted a tentative, conditional offer from the City of Windsor Heights, Iowa to be its police chief.
Roth confirmed the news Monday, but added that nothing had yet been confirmed or signed. He declined to comment further.
Roth was hired July 6, 2015 and began his duties here on Aug. 3 that year. He succeeded Greg Peterson, who retired in April 2014 and former Interim Chief Rex McChesney, who passed away in December 2015.
“Chief Roth established trust and developed deep relationships within the Clear Lake Police Department; outside law enforcement organizations; community service groups; local civic organizations, and City appointed and elected officials,” said City Administrator Scott Flory. “I am particularly proud of the achievements he made to create and support greater gender balance within the department. There
are currently 16 police officers in the CLPD and five are women. The department progressed significantly in terms of technology during his tenure and is well positioned for the future.
Prior to moving to Clear Lake Roth had been serving as a University of Iowa police captain, overseeing 22 sworn officers, four lieutenants and two sergeants in the University’s uni- formed patrol division. Prior to joining the Iowa City university’s public safety division in 2008, he served the previous 10 years with the Clive Police Department. He began his career in law enforcement in Johnson County, Kansas and the City of Mission, Kan.
