The Clear Lake boys took advantage of the chance to familiarize themselves with the facility that will host the North Central Conference meet by taking part in Webster City’s Lynx Relays Tuesday, April 18.

“It was not a great night to compete, with high winds and colder temperatures.   Our lineup goal was to be able to compete well in a couple relays and also give some of our distance guys fresh races later in the meet,” explained Coach Tyler Havens.  “We saw personal records in the 100, 200 and 110 hurdles, as in those races the athletes had the wind at their back. Outside of those events it was obvious we were pretty beat down from competing as this was our fourth meet in eight days. In order to get our legs back and get ready for the championship part of our season we decided to practice the remainder of the week to get back to the training cycle we are used to and work on some things that will lead us to success over the next few weeks.”

Team standings were not available, however Coach Havens said he believes Iowa Falls won the meet.

Clear Lake’s top individual finish came in the 3200 meters.  Isaac Smith was runner-up in a time of 11:39.43.

Clear Lake’s 4×100 meter relay team, which will run on the blue oval at Drake University this weekend, was a winner in 43.76.  Members of the relay are Blake Enke, Alex Kerr, Sam Dodge and Titan Schmitt.

Clear Lake’s 4×200 was also victorious.  Zeke Nelson, Enke, Kerr and Schmitt posted a time of 1:31.79.  The Shuttle Hurdle team of Gage Larson, Derek Erpelding, Cooper Cooke and Nelson won in 1:04.40.

In field events, Dodge placed second in the long jump with a leap of 20’.

The Lions were slated to compete in Osage Tuesday where Havens said the team will practice its max points lineup one last time before the conference championships.

Junior Varsity

The Lions recorded one individual and two relay wins in the junior varsity division of the meet.

Aidan Hippen ran 2:21.25 to break the tape in the 800 meter run.  The 4×100 team of Erpelding, Tyler LeFevre, Caden Cavett and Dontrel Johnson won in a time off 48.19.  LeFevre, Cavett and Johnson then joined Lincoln Allsbrook to win the 4×200 in 1:45.0.  Johnson was also runner-up in the 100 meters in a time of 12.42.
