The Lions continue to improve their times and show they can compete with tough competition.  Last week the girls team finished as runner-up at the Cardinal Relays at Garner and then traveled to Indianola to face some southern Iowa teams.

The pace stays fast for the Lions this week, as they were in Forest City Tuesday before some athletes compete at the Drake Relays Thursday, Friday and Saturday.  Some members of the team will be at a meet in Hampton on Friday.

Cardinal Relays

Reese Brownlee dominated the sprints with wins in the 100, 200 and 400 meters at the Cardinal Relays held Tuesday, April 11, in Garner.  Forest City captured the team title with 156 points and the Lions were runner-up with 146.

Brownlee ran 12.71 in the 100 meters and 26,12 in the 200.  In both races teammate Madison Leisure finished third in 13.09 and 28.46.  Brownlee broke the tape in the 400 in a time of 1:02.97.

Addison Doughan and Emily McLaughlin finished second and third respectively in the 1500 meter run in 5:02.26 and 5:15.74.  McLaughlin posted a win in the 3000 and Anna Feuerbach was second (times not available).

Clear Lake’s 4×400 team with Hope Halverson, Rebekah Steinbron, Avery Puttmann and Doughan was also a winner in 4:39.59.

Ron Werling Relays

The Lions were in Indianola Thursday for some quality competition at the Ron Werling Relays. SE Polk won the team title with 186 points, followed by Indianola and Norwalk.  The Lions were fifth behind Ottumwa.  Indianola JV, Des Moines Hoover and Des Moines Lincoln athletes also competed.

Clear Lake’ Sprint Medley, with Madison Leisure, Emerson McGrath, Lydia Brattrud and Reese Brownlee, ran its best time of the year at 1:52.14. Brownlee improved on her long jump for the season, jumping 17’8.50” for first place.  McGrath recorded a personal record in the 100 meters. She won in a time of 13.14.

The 4×100 placed second with a time of 51.40.  Relay members were Leisure, Brownlee, Lydia Brattrud and McGrath.
