Clear Lake captured both the varsity and junior varsity team titles at the Osage Invitational held Monday, April 24.
“Our purpose for this lineup was to score maximum points in order to practice that kind of a lineup for our Conference Championships next week,” said Coach Tyler Havens. “I really like how our boys executed their lineups and always had that next event mindset. Some of our guys had really tough lineups and they showed we are capable of doing that when called upon.”
The Lions’ field event group set the tone for the varsity win with solid performances.
Dylan Litzel set a new personal record in the high jump, winning the event in the process by clearing 6’1”.
Titan Schmitt had the fastest 100 meter time, winning in 11.31. Alex Kerr was third in 11.65. In the 200, the runners switched results, with Kerr winning in 22.80 and Schmitt second in 22.85. Zeke Nelson picked up a win in the 110 hurdles in a time of 15.54.
The Lions also won six of the seven relay events, helping them to amass a total of 159 points at the meet. Osage was runner-up with 103.
“On the track, our sprints group really started to shine in the 400, which is going to be a huge help to our mid-distance group. We have guys like Aidan Manemann and Marcus Skidmore running four races of 400 to 800 meters each and that can really wear them down throughout the night. Jack Englin and Jack Crane have been big pieces for us to fill out our varsity mid-distance events, but being a little deeper in the sprints and taking those sprinters up to the 400 is going to help a lot. Our distance group of Owen Smith, Isaac Smith and Caleb Jones also did a great job with the 3200 and 1600, coming away with 23 points across those two events.”
Clear Lake’s junior varsity topped the field of eight teams with 129 points. Charles City was runny with 104, followed by Osage with 95. The Lions won five events.
