Reese Brownlee earned a runner-up finish and a good number of Clear Lake athletes experienced the Blue Oval last week as qualifiers for the Drake Relays.

Brownlee, a qualifier in four events, placed second in the long jump with a mark of 18’3.25”.  She also set personal records in both the 400 meters, where she was sixth in a time of 57.87, and the 100 meters, placing 29th in 12.99.

Brownlee also ran a leg of the 4×100, which was 22nd in a time of 50.70.  Other members of the relay included Madison Leisure, Lydia Brattrud and Emersyn McGrath.

Distance runner Addison Doughan qualified in both the 1500 and 3000 meter runs.  She placed 17th in both, with times of 4:48.58 and 10:32.01.  Her effort in the 3000 meters was a personal record.

“It was a great experience for the athletes,” said Girls Track and Field Coach Shawn Puttmann.  “We even brought four other athletes to the Drake Relays to experience the atmosphere. Lily Lilliberg, Makella Jacobs, Avery Puttmann and Hope Halverson are alternates for the 4×100.

The Clear Lake boys team qualified its 4×100 relay for the event.  Blake Enke, Alex Kerr, Sam Dodge and Titan Schmitt clocked a 44.26, placing them 38th.

“Drake was a good experience for those 4×1 guys,” said Coach Tyler Havens.  “The handoffs weren’t as solid as they have been in other meets. I think having gone through the preparation and competition environment was the biggest benefit for us.”

Clear Lake Middle School sent two events to Drake.  The 4×100 team of CJ Lester, Bradyn Watkins, Drake Dohlman and Jaxson McIntire was ninth in 48.17.   Dohlman, Watkins, McIntire and Isaac Brownlee competed in the Middle School division’s Distance Medley and was fourth in 4:01.91.
