Schumacher will run for 3rd Ward seat

Beth Ann Schumacher has formally announced her candidacy for the Third Ward Clear Lake City Council  position in the upcoming Nov. 7 election.

In March, Schumacher went public with her decision to run for a seat on the City Council.  However, she was undecided about representing her own ward, or running for an at-large position on the ballot.

“My parents moved to Clear Lake from Des Moines when I was six-months-old and I grew up in Clear Lake, graduating from Clear Lake High School in 1972.   I ultimately was a high school social studies teacher at Clear Lake High School, retiring in 2015 after 35 years of teaching there.  I have lived in the Third Ward since 1995.  I look forward to introducing myself to the constituents of the Third Ward more fully during this summer as I seek signatures for my formal nomination petition and throughout the fall campaign.”

The Third Ward seat is currently held by Gary Hugi, who has not yet announced his intention to seek re-election.

The at-large position occupied by Mike Callanan, as well as the First Ward seat held by Mark Ebeling will also expire Dec. 31, 2023.
