Girls track team claims NCC Championship

Brownlee wins four events; dominates sprints

Clear Lake won the North Central Conference track and field championship Thursday, May 4, at Dodger Stadium in Fort Dodge.  The Lions ran away with the title, earning 163.5 points and easily outdistancing runner-up Algona, who had 141.5 points.

“It was a fun night to see the girls perform at their best,” said Coach Shawn Puttmann, whose team also won the title in 2022.  “We are now preparing for next week, as we head to Nevada for the District meet.”

The Lions got off to a strong start with several placements in field events.  

Reese Brownlee captured the first of her four wins on the day by jumping 18’4” to win the long jump.  Teammate Lily Lilliberg was second with a mark of 15’10.5”.  The Lions also grabbed a pair pf placements in the shot put, with Madi Ott tossing 34’5” for third place and Mariposa Coleman getting a mark of 33’ for fourth place.  Lydia Brattrud tied for fourth in the high jump by clearing 4’8”.  Xada Johnson was sixth in the discus with a throw of 84’1”.

The sprint events were dominated by Brownlee, as she won the 100 (12.84), 200 (26.10) and 400 (59.11) meter dashes.  

   The Lions’ Distance Medley relay was also a winner.  Madison Leisure, Lilliberg, Rebekah Steinbron and Anna Feuerbach took the gold in a time of 4:35.08.

In distance events, Addison Doughan had a pair of second place finishes in the 3000 (10:51.20) and 1500 (5:09.13) meters.  Emily McLaughlin was also place winner in those events, crossing the finish line fourth in the 3000 (11:20.19) and third in the 1500 (5:09.33).

Other top three finishes included: Emersyn McGrath, third in 100 (13.35) and 200 (27.35) meters; Sprint Medley Relay (Madison Leisure, McGrath, Lilliberg, Steinbron), third in 1:58.63; 4×800 (Feuerbach, Steinbron, Alexis Hauge, Doughan), third in 10:55.31; 4×100 (Leisure, McGrath, Jacobs, Brattrud), second in 52.13; 4×400 (Steinbron, Lilliberg, Feuerbach, Brattrud), second in 4:22.72.
