Baseball team goes 1-1

The Clear Lake baseball team (4-3) split last week going 1-1 with games against Iowa Falls-Alden, and one of the conference’s best in Humboldt. 

 

CL 13, IF-A 3

The Clear Lake baseball team (4-2) took on the Iowa Falls-Alden Cadets (2-2) on Wednesday, May 31, winning the ball game 13-3.

The Lions came out strong, scoring three runs in the first inning and four in the second. They put the game away in the fifth inning when they scored six more runs to keep — and maintain — their lead. 

Clear Lake had 12 hits with seven singles, four doubles, and a triple. They also stole seven bases, hit 10 RBIs, and committed only one error. Defensively, they had only one error on the day with Hudson Carney taking the win with seven strikeouts.

Clear Lake’s bats blew this game up, with everyone in the lineup earning their way on base at least once with a hit, an RBI, or a walk. 

Ezekiel Nelson went two-for-four with an RBI and a run. Carney went one-for-two at the plate with a double, an RBI, a sacrifice fly, and being hit by a pitch for two trips across home plate. 

Titan Schmitt lived up to his namesake with a next-level effort by going two-for-three with a double and a triple, along with three RBIs, and a walk.  He managed to cross the plate three times. 

Ben Loge and Hudson Smith both went two-for-three, while Cabot Neuberger went one-for-two with a walk and two runs.

 

Humboldt 5, CL 4

The Lions (4-3) played an away game at Humboldt (7-2) on Friday, June 2.  Clear Lake was tough until the end, falling to the Wildcats,  5-4 by a seventh-inning run.

The boys struggled to string hits together on Friday. The team had six hits with four singles and two doubles. They struck out a total of 11 times and had three RBIs.

Ezekiel Nelson went two-for-four with two RBIs. Hudson Carney went one-for-three with an RBI and a walk. Hudson Smith went two-for-two with a walk.

Defensively, the team had three errors on the day. Junior pitcher, Andrew Theiss did his best to keep the Lions in it by only allowing four earned runs with an enormous total of 15 strikeouts and only two walks.
