The Clear Lake baseball team (8-4) had a big week at the diamonds, playing in five games and going 4-1 on the week. In the second half of the week, the Lions played Garner-Hayfield-Ventura and Hampton-Dumont-CAL for a 2-0 record.
CL 11, GHV 4
The Lions (6-4) took on the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura Cardinals (6-4) on Thursday, June 8, winning the game at home, 11-4.
The Cards took an early 3-0 first-inning lead, but the Lions kept after it. They broke the bats wide open in the fifth inning, scoring five runs to take the lead with insurance in the sixth and seventh innings, securing the win.
Senior Ben Loge and freshman Hudson Carney both went two-for-two at the plate. They both managed to hit a single and a double and were each walked twice. Carney had two RBIs for the day.
Andrew Theiss and Tate Garman both went two-for-three at the plate. Theiss had two singles with one RBI and a walk. Garman had a single and a double, three RBIs, and a walk.
Defensively, the boys did not have an error. The Lions made 10 of their 21 outs at first base for routine plays.
Pitcher Joshua Monson got the win by only giving up five hits, three earned runs, and striking out four batters.
CL 5, H-D-CAL 4
In the final game of the week, the Lions defeated Hampton-Dumont-CAL (6-9) by a score of 5-4 on Friday, June 9.
The game started slow. The Lions got things going at the bottom of the third with a big four-run inning. The Bulldogs were able to creep back into the game to force extra innings.
The game went to the bottom of the ninth before Clear Lake found paydirt to take the win by one.
The top of the line up did its part in stringing hits together. Ezekiel Nelson went one-for-three with a single, a walk, and a stolen base. Dylan Bieber went one-for-four with a single, an RBI, and a run.
Titan Schmitt went one-for-four with a double and scored once. Ben Loge went two-for-four with a single and a triple. He had two RBIs and crossed the plate once.
Tate Garman went one-for-four with a single and an RBI. Luke Fuhrman made a great appearance going three-for-four at the plate with three singles, a walk, and a run.
Defensively, there were no errors and the pitching staff made another great appearance. Fuhrman got the win facing 10 batters, allowing one hit, no earned runs, a walk, and four strikeouts.
Pitcher Hudson Carney faced 16 batters, allowing six hits, three earned runs a walk, and five strikes outs. Cabot Neuberger faced 18 batters, allowing one hit, one earned run, five walks, and four strikeouts.
