The Clear Lake softball team (7-8) hosted St. Edmond (14-5), who sits at the top of the conference, for a home softball game on Wednesday, June 14. The Lions pulled all the shots to get a 8-7 upset over the Gaels.
St. Edmond was first on the offensive, scoring four runs in the first inning, ultimately holding a five-point lead before the Lions responded. The fourth inning came and Clear Lake strung the hits together to get four runs of their own with a stand alone run in the fifth inning.
At the top of the seventh inning and with the score tied, St. Edmond scored two runs, putting the pressure on Clear Lake. They responded with three runs for the win.
Clear Lake had 12 hits for nine singles, two doubles, and a triple, while playing error-free defense.
Annika Nelson went two-for three at the plate for a single and double, along with a walk, good for three runs. Jezzie Thompson was two-for-four with a single and an RBI, and crossed the plate two times.
Taylor Schwenn also scored two runs on two-for-four batting, taking a single and a double with three RBIs. Madi Ott went two-for-four at the plate, scoring two runs on two singles, while tallying two RBIs. Cheyanne Schroeder scored a run and an RBI on one-for-four batting for a single.
Thompson recorded the win from the pitcher’s mound, throwing 117 times against 31 batters. Opposing batters had nine hits, five walks, and five strikeouts.
