Fourteen Clear Lake youth competed in the Live Healthy Iowa State Track Championships held Saturday, June 17, in Bondurant, Iowa.

“Clear Lake was well represented and ran well during the meet,” said Tiffany Townsend, assistant director of the Clear Lake Athletics and Wellness Center.  “It’s fun to recognize these kids and all the hard work they put in on the track.”

The following students participated in the meet, Frankee Ray, Kendall Riser, Skyler Riser, Jensyn McIntire, Drake Tysdahl, Hudson Dorenkamp, Gavin Dorenkamp, Cohen McGrath, Elyn Nedved, Maxwell Dodge, Maxton Doughan, Mataya Quick, Tate Tysdahl, and Jax Dorweiler.

In order to compete at the State Meet, athletes needed to place first in a local track meet. These kids all competed in the Clear Lake Track Meet that was held on May 13.

Highlights from the meet include the following placements:

•Jax Dorweiler placed 2nd in the Standing Long Jump with a Jump of 6’11.

•Tate Tysdahl placed 1st in the 1600 meter run with a time of 6:11; and he placed 2nd in the 800 meter run with a time 2:49.44.

•Cohen McGrath placed 1st in the 200 meter dash with a time of 32.40; and he was 1st in the 800 with a time of 3:06.33.

•Maxton Doughan placed 1st in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:19.65; he was also 1st in the 200 meter with a time of 35.16.

•Jensyn McIntire got 3rd in the Long Jump with a leap of 5’11.50; and he was 2nd in the 200 Meter.

•4X100 team of Maxton Doughan, Drake Tysdahl, Hudson Dorenkamp, and Cohen McGrath placed second.

“It was a really fun event watching the kids push themselves, and encourage one another,” said Townsend.  “Most of the kids have not ran in a track meet before the one they ran in Clear Lake so, having this opportunity to race against others throughout the state was a pretty cool experience.”
