Ames – The Clear Lake girls cross country team participated in a competitive meet hosted by Gilbert at the Iowa State University campus. Of the 15 teams participating, Clear Lake took fifth and landed two in the top 10.
“Our girls team finished an impressive fifth place in the loaded field of ranked teams,” said head coach Tyler Havens. “It was really fun to watch these girls go out and compete at their best.”
Gilbert won the meet with a score of 66 points, followed by Clear Creek Amana at 113, Van Meter in third at 115, ADM scored 118, Clear Lake scored 135 points, Madrid at 164, Earlham had 190, Carlisle at 196, ACGC took ninth at 205, North Polk scored 230, Bondurant-Farrar took 11th at 297, Pella Christian at 298, Nevada at 306, West Marshall took 14th with 384 points, and South Hamilton at 442.
“Addie paced our team at the front, placing third with one of her best-ever races. Anna came back strong with a lifetime PR and moving up to fourth all time on the school record list. Rebekah and Saylor continued their impressive 2023 campaigns showing great consistency week to week. Lauren and Reese both ran gutsy races to finish out our varsity scoring,” said coach Havens.
Addison Doughan placed third overall with a time of 19:12. Anna Feuerbach took 10th place with a time of 20:16. Taking 32nd place was Rebekah Steinbron with a time of 21:05. Saylor Schmitt placed 36th with a time of 21:22.
Placing 57th was Lauren Englin with a time of 22:34. Reese Brownlee placed 59th with a time of 22:41. Shortly behind her was Brooklyn Heesch with a time of 22:52, good for 62nd.
