Doughan leads Lions to victory; boys place second

It was another successful outing for the Lion harriers last Thursday night in Roland-Story.  The girls team saw Addison Doughan take another race victory, propelling the team to a first place finish overall with only 38 points.

Addison Doughan, a Clear Lake High School junior, has won the last two races .  She finished with a time of 19:09.24, leading Madrid’s freshman Madelyn Grothus, who finished second with a time of 19:34.01.

“She did a phenomenal job executing her race plan and making a big move early in the third mile to gap Grothus of Madrid,” said head coach Tyler Havens. “The rest of our top five all medaled by placing inside the top 20.”

Clear Lake senior Anna Feuerbach placed fourth in a time of 20:47.97, leading Clear Lake’s seventh place Rebekah Steinbron who finished in a time of 21:12.51.

Rounding out the top 10 was Clear Lake’s Saylor Schmitt, a freshman, who finished in a time of 21:43.65, just edging out eleventh place Tori Meinecke who finished in 21:43.94.

Reese Brownlee finished the race in 22:08.19 which was good for 16th place and Jezzie Thompson came in 21st with a time of 22:40.34.

Teammates Lauren Englin and Alexis Hauge finished together for 26th and 27th, respectively, with Englin completing the course in 22:59.91 and Hauge finishing in 23:01.89.

Brooklyn Heesch and Alana Evelsizer also finished together, with Heesch finishing in 23:33.94 for 34th and Evelsizer in 35th with a time of 23:35.72.

In 40th was Allie Olthoff with a time of 24:08.62 and Madison Leisure came 43rd with a time of 24:43.6.

In 50th was Alexis Theiss with a time of 25:41.25, rounding out the Clear Lake runners.

The boys race saw the Clear Lake Lions have success as well, placing second, along with Ogden, with 92 points, behind Nevada who finished first with 51 points.

“Our boys set themselves up for success the first mile and worked up through the field the last half of the race,” said Havens. “Freshmen Gavin Roske and Senior Caleb Jones worked together to lead us up front with both placing inside the top 10. Isaac Smith, Aiden Hippen, and Aiden Burtness rounded out our scoring. However, the points added up to be the same as Ogden, so with the tie breaker going to the better sixth runner, Senior Ethan Evelsizer made himself count helping us to win the tie breaker and achieve our goal of finishing as a top two team.”

Taking the meet victory was Ogden’s Carson Van Sickle who finished the course in a time of 16:03.19.

Clear Lake saw its first runner cross the line when freshman Gavin Roske crossed in a time of 17:52.92.

Caleb Jones was 10th with a time of 17:56.7.

Isaac Smith finished the course in 21st with a time of 18:22.68, while Aiden Hippen wasn’t far behind in 25th with a time of 18:37.65.

Aiden Burtness finished 28th with a time of 18:56.92 and Ethan Evelsizer finished 30th with a time of 19:04.72.
