Lion cross country competes at Wartburg

It was a busy week for Clear Lake cross country, competing in Algona and at Wartburg College on Saturday.

At Algona the team saw a little bit of a different look as the varsity runners were rested.

See last week’s edition for the full results from Algona.

On Saturday, however, the Lions were back in full force on both sides of the team, competing at Wartburg College were 42 girls teams competed and 49 boys teams.

All teams were allowed to have 10 runners in the varsity race as well.

“This is typically a really fast course, but unfortunately, the unseasonably warm temperatures hindered performances across the board,” said Lion head coach Tyler Havens. “Our girls still had a great team performance.”

The Lion girls finished eighth with Anna Feuerbach coming away with a one second personal best time of 20:15.4, which was good for 15th overall.

Addison Doughan finished eighth overall and first for the Lions with a time of 19:56.5.

Saylor Schmitt finished in a time of 22:12 for 80th, followed by Rebekah Steinbron with a time of 22:19.7 for 90ths place. 

Jezzie Thompson finished 141st with a time of 23:01.8 and Lauren Englin finished 154th with a time of 23:12.

Alexis Hauge finished 165th with a time of 23:27 and Reese Brownlee came in 225th with a time of 24:45.70.

Alana Evelsizer finished 269th with a time of 25:43.4 and Brooklyn Heesch finished 335th with a time of 30.06.9.

Boys Results

The Lion boys also had a good day with a loaded field.

Freshman John Amos saw varsity action for the first time and joined fellow freshmen Gavin Roske and Aiden Burtness in the top seven runners for the Lions.

“With two seniors, twojuniors and three freshman we are a well balanced team heading into the championship season with other guys knocking on the door as well,” said Havens. “It will be tough to pick a varsity seven for this group heading into the Conference Championships as we have a lot of great options.”

In the boys race, Caleb Jones crossed the finish line first for the Lions and 112th overall with a time of 17:51.60, followed by  Roske with a time of 18:02.8 for 120th.

Aiden Hippen completed the race in 202nd with at time of 19:08.4.

In 205th was Isaiah Smith, completing the course in a time of 19:09.5.

Ethan Evelsizer finished 242nd in a time of 19:43.5.

John Amos completed the course in 19:58.3 which was good for 254th.

Aiden Burtness saw a time of 19:59.8, finishing 257th.

Luke Moore finished 259th with a time of 20:02.5.

Colby Archer finished his race in 262nd with a time of 20:08.5.

Not far behind was Kamden Smith with a time of 20:21.5 and a place of 278th, to round out the varsity squad.

In the junior varsity side of the race, Weston Conway finished 92nd in a time of 20:37.3.

Daniel Steinbron was 131st with a time of 21:17.4 followed by Hudson Uetz in 173rd for a time of 22:08.

In 221st was Cade Paulsen with a time of 23:06.4.

Brady Amble was 232nd with a time of 23:29.8, followed by Abraham Clark in 260th in a time of 24:19.9.

Lane Stroup was 283rd with a time of 25:15.3.

Nick Strayer was 322nd with a time of 27:28 and Reid Hartwig was 328th with a time of 28:28.3.

Asher Morrow rounded out the Lions with a 345th finish in a time of 30:31.2.
