It will be a night for mystery, “who-done-its” and a lot of fun when Clear Lake High School presents the play, “Clue: High School Edition.” The show will be presented on Saturday, Nov. 4, at 7 p.m. and on Sunday, Nov. 5, at 3 p.m.
The play focuses on six guests who appear at Boddy Mansion. Mrs. White, S. Scarlet, Colonel Mustard, Professor Plum, Mrs. Peacock and Mr. Green all come together for an unusual dinner party. “Clue” is based on the popular board game and cult classic movie. The host, Mr. Boddy, mysteriously ends up getting murdered. The play takes a series of twists and turns involving murder, blackmail and some comedy thrown in the mix.
“I chose this play for several reasons,” said Director Matthew Nuehring. “Clue is one of the most recognized board games in American pop culture history and has been played by millions and the 1980’s movie has also been seen by millions of people. Secondly, the playwright, Jonathan Lynn did an amazing job writing the script, and making it fun and engaging for the cast. Lastly, I choose this play because there’s enough twist and turns for the whole family to enjoy.”
Main cast members include: Wadsworth, Boston Winters; Mrs. Scarlett, Carley Tiburcio-Jusino; Colonel Mustard, Vince DeMaggio; Mrs. Peacock, Abbey Lenning; Professor Plum, Malinda Voortmann; Mr. Green, Cael Stucky; Mrs. White, Madi Moore.
Supporting cast: Mr. Boddy, Clarke Beard; Yvette, Lauryn Coleman; The Cook, Carma Morris; The Motorist, Cecelia Clark; Newscaster, Bergen Klahehn; McCarthy’s voice, Bergen Klaehn; Cop, Kaylee Ostrander; Chief of Police, Hatter Lynch; Cop Extra 1, Salem Mock; Cop Extra 2, Paige Bannister; Singing Telegram Girl, Lily Biermann; Student Director, Alicia Belcourt; Acting Ambassadors, Indie Miller and Rune Echelberger; Stage Manager, Annika Shallberg.
“This cast is the most engaged cast I have ever worked with,” said Nuehring. “It’s been a blast!”
Bars and beverages will be available at intermission. Also part of the fun, will be charcuterie boards for sale and there will be raffle tickets for a grand prize each night. The grand prize will be a “Family Game Night Giveaway,” a package consisting of $150 worth of board games and a $40 gift certificate to Papa Everett’s Pizza. Raffle tickets are $5 apiece or five for $20. All proceeds go back to the theater department to help pay for licensing, set construction materials, props, costumes and more.
Tickets are $5 a piece and can be purchased at www.gobound.com/ia/schools/clearlake/tickets. Activity passes are not accepted.
“Come on out, bring a friend and enjoy a night of murder-mysters with some comedic twists thrown in,” said Nuehring.
