The Mason City Mohawk hockey team fell to 1-2 on the season after traveling to Des Moines to face the Des Moines Capitals this weekend, Nov. 4.
The first period saw great goaltending by both teams as no score was posted, but in the second period, things opened up.
The Mowhawks struck first as Brayden Pearce, assisted by Thomas Medlin, hit their first goal on a power play
The Capitals salso answered on a power play off a shot by Jase Stanbrough and assists from Justin Reams and Paxon Sacre.
The Capitals would add two more goals in the second period to lead the Mohawks 3-1.
In the third period, the Capitals continued to strike, leading Mason City 5-1 before Clear Lake’s Dylan Bieber put in a goal with the help of Kellen Kantaris.
Unforunately, it would be the last time the Mohawks scored in the contest and the Capitals added one more to win 6-2.
Mason City didn’t lose for lack of trying, putting 47 shots on goal to Des Moines 28.
Jacob Barr, goalie for Mason City, had 22 saves on 27 shots, while Jackson Fleming, goalie for Des Moines, recorded 45 saves on 47 shots.
Next up for Mason City is a trip to Waterloo Friday, Nov. 10, at 8 p.m.
