The Clear Lake girls wrestling team traveled to Mason City for the Riverhawk Invitational just before Thanksgiving.
As a team, the Lions placed third behind Algona and Mason City.

100 – Clear Lake’s Avery Williams wrestled at 100 pounds and first faced Eagle Groves Catherine Orozco.
Williams fell in 45 seconds and moved to the consolation side of the bracket where she faced Ella Als of Mason City.
Williams fell by a major decision of 9-1, placing her fourth overall.
110 – Shaelyn Ulrich competed at 110 against Saint Ansgar’s Emma Hall.
Ulrich fell in 1:23 to put her into the consolation bracket where she faced Reese Taylor of Algona.
Ulrich was defeated by a close 10-8 decision.
120 – Madison McLaughlin and Aali Martinez both competed in the 120 pound class for the Lions.
McLaughlin faced Malyn Davis of Algona, falling in 1:06 and heading into the consolation side of the bracket.
Martinez faced Deana Raisch of Iowa Falls-Alden and took a victory by fall in 5:25.
Martinez then lost to Kamina Munson of Mason City by a 10-2 major decision and would face her teammate, McLaughlin, in the consolation bracket.
Martinez came out on top, pinning McLaughlin in 2:33 before facing Avah Blakeman.
Martinez took the victory in 1:56 by fall and went on to face Libby Stocks.
Stocks defeated Martinez by fall after a long 5:15.
125 – Jezzie Thompson of Clear Lake squared off against Makayla Lukes of Mason City to start at 125 pounds.
Thompson won by fall in a quick 50 seconds before facing Lillian Allie of Algona. Thompson defeated Allie by fall in 2:42 before falling to Jaymie Anderson in 1:09.
Thompson faced Lukes once more and this time defeated her in 3:04 to take third place overall.
130 – Emma Allie faced Lily Wilson of North Central Trailblazers to start her day off at 130 pounds.
Allie fell after a bout lasting 3:02 and came back against Chelsea Brumm.
Allie defeated Brumm by fall in 1:48 but ultimately lost out in the third place match by fall in 4:26 to Nicole Menke of Eagle Grove.
140 – Cecilia Mattis began her day against Gabrielle Branstad of the North Central Trailblazers, defeating her in 52 seconds by fall.
Mattis would then face Regan Nicholson pinning her in 4:28 to head into the first place matchup where she fell to Lauryn Silvey of Iowa Falls-Alden in 1:28, placing second.
155 – Emery Hippen wrestled for Clear Lake at 155 pounds, facing Lively Hanawalt of Des Moines.
Charlie Larsen was also at 155 pounds and faced Natasha Martinez-Garcia of Iowa Falls-Alden.
Hippen got the victory by fall in 1:13 and faced Hadley Buenzow of the Trailblazers.
Hippen won by a close 5-4 decision before facing Kyleigh James of Mason City.
Hippen fell to James and would head to the consolation bracket to face Martinez-Garcia.
In Charlie Larsen’s bracket, she fell in her first matchup before facing Ty’Onna Scott. Larsen got the win by fall in 2:40 and defeated Hadley Buenzow by major decision of 10-1.
Teammates would collide in the third place matchup as Hippen and Larsen squared off.
Hippen took third place pinning Larsen in 1:02.
170 – Gracey Smith, Jannali Bear Don’t Walk, Lily Bunn, Kayma Burleson and Zoe Koontz wrestled at 170 pounds.
Koontz faced Kynnedy Gunderson who defeated Koontz by fall in 2:48 to put her in the consolation bracket.
Bunn received a bye and would face Gunderson next, falling in 1:43.
Smith defeated Avery Hoffmeyer in her first matchup and would then face Gunderson who defeated Smith 6-3.
Bear Don’t Walk faced Reagan Haynes, falling in 38 seconds.
Burleson battled Jayda LaSalle, defeating her in 34 seconds. She faced Haynes next was pinned in 1:55.
In consolation Koontz defeated LaSalle by fall in 3:13 and wrestled Bear Don’t Walk.
Koontz won that matchup with a pin in 2:21 and would face teammate Smith.
Smith was victorious by fall in 5:13.
Bunn faced Torilyn Simmons and was pinned in 1:42.
Burleson met up with Simmons where she defeated Simmons by fall in 31 seconds.
Bear Don’t Walk and Bunn faced off for seventh place in which Bunn was victorious by fall in 1:39.
Koontz faced Simmons in fifth place and defeated Simmons by fall in 3:38.
Burleson and Smith would meet in the third place matchup in which Burleson was declared winner after a pin in 3:02.
