The Lion wrestling team traveled to Turkey Valley last week where they faced Central Community, Elkader, Turkey Valley and South Winneshiek.
The Lions came out with two victories and one loss, falling to Turkey Valley 51-23.
Starting off against Elkader, the match saw 11 forfeits, nine of which (not including a double forfeit) went the way of the Lions to put them ahead by quite a bit.
Wrestling at 150 pounds, Tyler LeFevre of Clear Lake faced Preston Kulper.
LeFevre pinned Kulper in 2:30 to get the victory.
Braxton Bormann of Central Community and Jeseb Prestholt of Clear Lake took the mat at 126 pounds with Bormann taking the victory over Prestholt by fall in 1:22.
Clear Lake’s Noah Potter defeated Collin Jaster at the 132 pound weight class pinning him in 2:34, giving the Lions a 66-12 win.
Against South Winneshiek, there was plenty of wrestling to be done with only five total forfeits, two in favor of Clear Lake and three in Favor of South Winneshiek.
At 138 pounds, the Lions fielded Aiden Hippen who faced Eric Greve.
It was a quick bout, lasting all of :51 seconds with Hippen pinning Greve.
At 150 pounds, Carter Perry of Clear Lake and Landen Schnuelle went the distance and after a close match, Perry was the one who had his arm raised in victory after an 8-6 decision.
At 157 pounds, LeFevre defeated his opponent Brady Ohrt in 2:37 by pin.
Clear Lake suffered a loss at 165 pounds after Lion wrestler Christian Dunning fell to Kyle Kuboushek by fall in 3:30.
At 175 pounds, Liam Byrnes of Clear Lake defeated Quinn Huinker, but it took all three rounds and went to decision with Huinker winning 8-5.
At 190 pounds, Clear Lake’s Dylan Evenson faced Ray Lienau.
After 1:49 of wrestling Evenson was victorious with a pin.
Heading into the 215 pound weight class, the Lions fielded Jake Trenary, while South Winneshiek put up Parker Timp.
It was a close battle between the two wrestlers with Timp edging out Trenary by a 5-4 decision.
At 285 pounds, Max Orchard of Clear Lake defeated Kolton Burmmond by fall in a quick :54 seconds.
Getting into the featherweights, John Amos at 106 pounds defeated South Winneshiek’s Gavin Thuente with a pin at 1:43.
In extra action at 138 pounds, Eli Higgins of South Winneshiek defeated Cayden VanVoorhis by fall in 3:07.
Another extra match saw Cody Meyer of South Winneshiek defeat Gage Young by fall in 1:48.
In Clear Lake’s loss to Turkey Valley, there were only two forfeits, both by Clear Lake at 113 and 120 pounds.
At 144 pounds, Perry defeated Tate Schwickerath by fall in two minutes even.
Turkey Valley went on a run through the next seven matches taking wins.
LeFevre lost to Ethan Praska by a 9-2 decision before Cooper Cooke fell in 3:51 to Burke Busta.
Christian Dunning lost to Karson Kolbet by a close 4-3 decision.
Byrnes fell in 1:31 to Leander Reicks.
Evanson lost to Ethan Swehla by a 5-3 decision.
Orchard fell to Braden McShane in :27 seconds.
Trenary lost his match to Gatlin McCumber by fall in 3:48.
At 106 pounds, Amos was able to make quick work of Quinlan Mahoney, pinning the Turkey Valley wrestler in :28 seconds.
Noah Potter defeated Cargin Robinson by fall in 1:44.
Prestholt fell to Schaunfenbuel getting pinned in 1:16.
Hippen took care of his man, Jayden Bucknell in 5:04 with a technical fall, 17-2.
The two teams decided to run extra matches. Bryar Usher defeated VanVoorhis by fall in :50 seconds.
Gage Young of Clear Lake fell in 2:32 to Caleb Utley.
Dane Orchard fell in :36 seconds to Cade Carpenter.
Jack Hackman defeated Dylan Maloy by fall in 3:12, before Brock Thompson of Clear Lake fell to Lohen Tank getting pinned in 2:58.
Tank wrestled again against Jackson Peckham and defeated Clear Lake’s wrestler by a technical fall, 15-0 in 3:55.
Lincoln Allsbrook of Clear Lake battled back-to-back against Trae Keel, defeating him by fall in 5:18 and Roy Barron, taking him down by a pin in 2:37.
Mason Nelson defeated VanVoorhis by fall in :48 seconds.
