The Clear Lake City Council, at its regular meeting on Dec. 4, held a public hearing on the proposed rezoning of a 25-plus acre tract of land located south of 15th Avenue S. and west of S. 8th St. into different zoning districts.
The rezoning request came from Brandon and Dennis Hrubes of Lakeside Acres. The proposal is to divide the parcel into three separate zoning districts by expanding the existing “high-density single-family residential” district; changing a portion of the existing “community commercial” district to “factory-built housing residential” and an additional portion of “community commercial” to “intensive commercial;” and to establish a “planned development housing overlay district.”
With no comments from the public, the Council approved the first reading of the Ordinance amending the Official Zoning Map. Two more readings are necessary, with the next one scheduled for Dec. 18.
The Council also approved to replace the current access control system, which operates, controls and monitors all the doors at City Hall, the police department and its remote garages.
The existing controller, installed during the 2013/14 remodel, was discovered to be obsolete when one of the battery back-ups for a police department door failed and needed to be replaced.
The quote of $27,290.88 from Electronic Engineering, a company the city has worked with for many years, was accepted.
“This wouldn’t be a change order to the City Hall [remodeling] project, because it’s not really a part of that,” said Clear Lake City Administrator Scott Flory. “But since we came in under budget for capital for that project, we’ve got the capacity to do that within what our original budget constraints were for that project.”
