New Hampton 34
The Lions third win of the season came on the road in New Hampton on Dec. 5 when Clear Lake defeated the Chickasaws, 70-34.
It was a one-sided affair in New Hampton as the Lion defense held the Chickasaws off the board until very late in the first quarter, leading 11-2 after the first eight minutes.
The second quarter was much of the same, with the Lions leading 34-10 at the halftime buzzer.
The third quarter saw the New Hampton boys find some offense but the Lions continued a dominant performance, outscoring the opponent 23-18. The bench saw plenty of action in the fourth, outscoring New Hampton 13-6.
The Lions were led by Cael Stephany and his three-point shot in which he made four on a total of 11 attempts for a team high 12 points.
Thomas Meyer, a force inside, scored 10 points and Trevor Theobald was three-for-three at the line and made three goals to score nine points.
It was a team effort throughout the contest as Gavin Anderson recorded six rebounds to lead the team, along with three steals. Cade Dillavou contributed five rebounds.
“We know what we have in our top five, six guys, they played a lot of minutes last year and now it’s just a matter of who’s are seven, eight, nine and ten. Games like these are good to keep learning and those guys finding their footing,” said Lion head coach Jeremey Ainley. “We want to run and get out and go and we are just a little tentative this year and still looking for someone to bring it up and get going.”
The Lions have Waverly-Shell Rock up next with a day between contests.
“Our guys are familiar with Waverly, even though we play them once a year,” said coach Ainley. “We kind of know what they do and what they are and they have a lot of the same guys back. We have a lot of the gameplan in right now and it’s a matter of tomorrow, quick turnaround and we will be ready to go.”
