Mason City Mohawks split with Blues

The Mason City Mohawk hockey team hosted the Quad City Blues Dec. 9.

In the first period both teams saw two goals.  Brayden Pearce and Kellen Kantaris scored for Mason City with assists by Lane Hansen and Dylan Bieber, respectively.  The second period put the Mohawks ahead 4-3 with Mason City adding two more goals by Pearce and Jaxon Bothwell and the Blues just one.

The Mohawks kept the Blues out of the net, while scoring on a Kantaris shot to win.

It was nearly the same story Sunday morning, but the Blues came out on top, 4-3.

Dylan Bieber scored the first goal for the Mohawks in the first period with an assist by Kantaris.

The Blues took a lead in the second before Kantaris, assisted by Bieber, knotted the score at two each.

The third period saw both teams score again, this time with the Mohawks Emmett Riley scoring an assisted goal with :32 seconds left in the game to force an extra period.

The overtime period saw the Blues score and keep the Mohawks out to split the weekend.
