Clear Lake Lions show strength in intense wrestling duals

Clear Lake 37

The Clear Lake Lion boys wrestling team hosted a dual with the Webster City Lynx last week in a match that ended in the Lynx favor.

With most weights filled, only two forfeits were seen in the dual, both in favor for Webster City.

At 138 pounds, the Lions fielded Aiden Hippen.

Hippen faced Gavin Wynkoop and after 3:15, Hippen earned the pin.

At 144 pounds, Tyler LeFevre defeated Webster City’s Adison Scott after 3:07.

Carter Perry took to the mat against Blake Berninghaus at 150 pounds and this match went the distance.

Perry was able to come out on top by a 6-0 decision.

At 157 pounds, Christian Dunning defeated Tristan Mason by major decision, 9-1.

At 165 pounds, Isaac Firsching of Webster City defeated Clear Lake’s Jack Hackman by fall in 5:28.

Luke Estlund, of Webster City, defeated Liam Byrnes by fall in 1:36.

At 190 pounds, Carson Bertran of Webster City, got another Lynx win by technical fall, outscoring Dylan Evenson by a score of 19-4 in 3:17.

At 215 pounds, Jake Trenary got the Clear Lake team back in the win column with a victory over Eli Estlund by fall in 1:41.

Landon Griffin, of Webster City, defeated Max Orchard, of Clear Lake, by fall in :45 seconds.

At 106 pounds, John Amos, of Clear Lake, defeated Angel Ramirez, pinning him in :51 seconds.

At 113 pounds, Linden Phetxoumphone, of Webster City, defeated Hayden Shear by fall, pinning him in :22 seconds.

At 120 pounds, Noah Potter, of Clear Lake, defeated Brayden Burtnett by fall, pinning him in 4:35.

 

Battle of Waterloo

The Lions traveled to Waterloo for the Battle of Waterloo tournament that featured teams from across the state.

The Lions faced six teams including Cedar Falls, Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, Denver, Indianola, Waterloo East and Lisbon.

Against those six teams, the Lions came out on top in one dual, defeating Cedar Falls 41-36.

At 165 pounds, Raif Baack, of Clear Lake, defeated Kael Moore by fall, pinning him in 5:26.

At 175 pounds, Christian Dunning, of Clear Lake, defeated Ambrose Hansen by technical fall, outscoring him 15-0 after 4:00.

At 190 pounds, Dylan Evenson, of Clear Lake, defeated Kaleb Larson by fall, pinning him in 3:45.

Jake Trenary, of Clear Lake, was defeated by fall at 285 pounds by Drew Campbell, getting pinned in 3:30.

At 106 pounds, John Amos, of Clear Lake, found himself pinning Landon Wallace in 5:23.

Hayden Shear, of Clear Lake, took the victory against Keegan Schmit at 113 pounds by a close 15-13 decision.

At 126 pounds, Micah Wilson, of Cedar Falls defeated Noah Potter by fall in 2:32.

At 138 pounds, Aiden Hippen, of Clear Lake, got the victory over Jack Carter by fall in 1:20 with a pin.

Tyler LeFevre, of Clear Lake, defeated Brayden Wiles at 144 pounds by a close 4-2 decision.

Levi Mayfield, of Cedar Falls, defeated Clear Lake’s Carter Perry by fall, pinning the 150 pounder in 3:59.

At 157 pounds, Ben Backes, of Cedar Falls, defeated Cooper Cooke by fall in 1:33.

 

C-G-D 42

Clear Lake 40

Against the Cowboys, the Lions were close to victory, but just two points split the teams and the Cowboys of Clarion-Goldfield-Dows took the win, 42-40 in a match up that saw two forfeits in favor of the Cowboys.

Starting at 175 pounds, the Lions Dunning defeated Ulises Frias by a major decision score of 11-1.

Evenson defeated Santiago Deleon by fall in 1:07, pinning the 190 pounder.

At 215 pounds, Mason Allen, of C-G-D, defeated Jake Trenary by fall, pinning him in 3:48.

At 285, the heavy weights battled for 1:06 and Clear Lake’s Max Orchard fell to Ashtin Willms by pin.

At 106, the featherweights met and Amos leapt to victory over Lucas Ennis by fall, pinning him in 1:28.

Lucas Cayler, of C-G-D, defeated Shear by fall, pinning him in :46 seconds.

At 120 pounds, Ryan Hartwig, of C-G-D, defeated Potter by fall in 5:00.

Hippen wrestled Abram Wessels at 138 pounds, getting the pin after 1:04 to get the win.

At 144 pounds, LeFevre defeated Mason Warnke by fall in 2:43.

At 150 pounds, Perry defeated Jaxen Engstrom by fall, pinning him in 2:45.

Cooke defeated Cooper Nosbush at 157 pounds, by fall, pinning him in 3:19.

Caleb Seaba, of C-G-D, defeated Baack by fall in 2:18, pinning the 165 pounder.

 

Denver 39

Clear Lake 38

It was another close battle for the Lions, this time falling to Denver by one point, with two forfeits going the way of Denver with Denver winning 39-38 after the tie-breaker.

Starting at 215, Trenary got the major decision victory over Donavon Farrell by a score of 13-2.

At 285 pounds, Orchard defeated Cody Koepke by fall, pinning the heavyweight in 3:14.

At 106 pounds, Cannen Beaumont, of Denver, defeated Amos by fall in 1:00.

At 113 pounds, Jericho Grimmett defeated Shear by fall, pinning him in :50 seconds.

Potter defeated Riley Brandt in a match that lasted 5:05 before Potter pinned the 126 pounder.

Hippen and Kenny Lamb wrestled at 138 pounds with Hippen being the victor by fall, pinning him in 2:18.

Perry lost his match at 144 pounds to Boden White after 3:50 by a score of 16-0, ending in a technical fall.

LeFevre defeated his man at 150 pounds, pinning Xander Peterson in 5:06.

Cooke fell to Braven Beaumont at 157 pounds, getting pinned in 2:33.

Dunning defeated Gage Wooldrik by major decision at 165 pounds, defeated him by a score of 12-3.

Baack lost to David Warrior at 175 pounds by a close 5-3 decision.

Evenson ended the match at 190 pounds with a pin against Corbin Hill in 1:41.

 

Indianola 73

Clear Lake 3

It was a tough outing for the Lions against Indianola as the Lions fell 73-3 with only one match going in favor of Clear Lake.

At 157 pounds, Cooke fell to McDonald by way of pin in :42 seconds.

At 165 pounds, Dunning lost to Aj Pontier by a 12-5 decision.

At 175 pounds, Dax Clatt defeated Liam Byrnes by technical fall, 15-0, in 4:12.

Carson Slorah defeated Orchard by fall in 1:55 at 215 pounds.

Sawyer Nelson defeated Amos at 106 pounds by fall in 2:58.

Stoney Wood defeated Shear by fall, pinning the 113 pounder in 1:08.

Potter fell at 126 pounds to Rylan Hilton by a 16-1 decision resulting in a technical fall in 5:24.

Hippen won Clear Lake’s only match against Indianola at 138 pounds with a 5-0 decision against Eli Cox.

Tyler LeFevre fell to Elijah Blewitt by fall in 2:45.

 

Waterloo East 39

The Lions lost another close battle, this time with Waterloo East, by a score of 39-38.

At 215 pounds, Trenary got a quick pin over Jonah Helmrichs in :34 seconds to get the win.

At 285 pounds, Orchard defeated Chance Scoggin by fall, pinning him in 4:56 pounds.

At 106 pounds, Mariyon Norton, defeated Shear by fall in 1:47.

Jailen Coleman defeated John Amos at 113 pounds, by fall, pinning him in 1:37.

Potter defeated Bodhi Miller at 120 pounds, pinning him in 1:57.

Hippen got a victory over Isaac Lomas by fall, pinning the 138 pounder in 2:40.

At 144 pounds, LeFevre got another victory on the day by way of technical fall, outscoring Georvon Tyler 20-5 in 4:45.

At 150 pounds, Caleb Peters defeated Perry by fall, pinning him in 1:09.

At 157 pounds, Tyrone Parrow defeated Cooke by a close 7-5 decision.

Dunning defeated Gianni Speller at 165 pounds by an 8-1 decision.

At 175 pounds, Baack fell to Maximus Magayna, getting pinned in 1:12.

 

Lisbon 48

The Lions fell to Lisbon by a score of 48-27.

Starting off at 157 pounds, Cooke fell to Gage Holub by fall, getting pinned in 2:33.

Baack defeated Gavin Carmer at 165 pounds by a 5-0 decision.

Dunning defeated Ryan Nebins at 175 pounds with a quick pin in :35 seconds.

Evenson battled Ryan Nevins at 190 pounds, getting the pin in 1:20.

At 215 pounds, Jake Trenary lost to Indy Ferfuson by a close 3-0 decision.

At 106 pounds, Jack Gogel defeated Amos by fall, pinning him in 3:39.

At 113 pounds, Wesley Sadler defeated Shear by fall in :55 seconds.

Potter fell to Cade Happel in 120 pounds, getting pinning in 3:37.

Hippen earned a victory over Ryder Meeks at 138 pounds by fall in :27 seconds.

Tiernan Boots defeated Perry at 144 pounds, getting the pin in 2:39.

At 150 pounds, LeFevre defeated Justin Snyder by fall in 1:07.
