Clear Lake Lion wrestlers have busy week

It was a good night of wrestling for the Clear Lake Lion boys as they defeated Mason City 65-9 on Tuesday, Jan. 15 and then Waterloo East 45-27 after suffering two losses in Algona just over a week ago.

The Lions saw eight match wins against Mason City while the Riverhawks saw one match win and four forfeits.

113 – John Amos, of Clear Lake, defeated DeForrest Snow by fall, pinning him in 1:50.

144 – Tyler LeFevre, of Clear Lake, defeated Alfonso Villarreal by technical fall (16-1) in 3:22.

150 – Cooper Cooke, of Clear Lake, defeated Nolan Hoover by an 8-4 decision.

157 – Raif Baack, of Clear Lake, defeated Carter Rockwell by fall, pinning him in after a long match that lasted 5:43.

165 – Christian Dunning, of Clear Lake, defeated Hale Rhodes by an 8-2 decision.

175 – Liam Byrnes, of Clear Lake, defeated Samuel Collins in a quick :52 seconds, getting the pin.

190 – Dylan Evenson, of Clear Lake, defeated Aidin Askildson, pinning him in 1:27.

215 – Jake Trenary, of Clear Lake, had a quick match that lasted :15 seconds that saw him pin Joseph Hauser.

285 – Alex Kenward, of Mason City, defeated Max Orchard after a match that went three rounds and ended in a 5-0 decision.

Waterloo East 27

It was another victory for the Lions as a team over Waterloo East that saw the Lions take eight match wins to Waterloo’s six. Four matches were forfeited in favor of Clear Lake, while one went in favor of Waterloo.

106 – Mariyon Norton, of Waterloo East, defeated Hayden Shear by fall, pinning him in 1:21.

113 – John Amos defeated Bodhi Miller by a 14-5 major decision.

126 – Jeseb Prestholt defeated Jacob James by fall in 2:30.

132 – Aiden Hippen defeated Isaac Lomas by fall after a long 5:19.

138 – Carter Perry, of Clear Lake, defeated Georvon Tyler by an 18-1 technical fall in 4:49.

144 – Caleb Peters, of Waterloo East, defeated Tyler LeFevre by a 13-9 decision.

150 – Tyrone Parrow, of Waterloo East, defeated Cooper Cooke by a close 7-5 decision.

175 – Maximus Magayna, of Waterloo East, defeated Liam Byrnes by fall, pinning him in :25 seconds.

190 – Demaris Henderson, of Waterloo East, defeated Dylan Evenson by a 6-2 decision.

215 – Jake Trenary defeated Chance Scoggin in a quick :36 seconds, pinning him.

 

NCC Tournament

The Lion wrestling team hosted the North Central Conference tournament last Saturday, Jan. 20 where all NCC schools made an appearance.

Those schools include: Algona, Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, Hampton-Dumont-CAL, Humboldt, Iowa Falls-Alden, St. Edmond and Webster City.

The Clear Lake Lions saw six in the top three at the end of the day with 10th ranked Aiden Hippen taking the top step of the podium at 132 pounds and Christian Dunning in first place at 175 pounds.

106 – John Amos, of Clear Lake, first faced Lucas Ennis, of C-G-D, and fell in an 11-9 decision to move into consolation. Amos faced Angel Ramirez, of Webster City next. Amos pinned Ramirez by fall in 5:02 and faced Carter Janssen, of Hampton, by a 6-1 decision to finish third overall. 

113 – Hayden Shear, of Clear Lake, faced Jayson Stevens, of Hampton, falling to Stevens in :40 seconds by pin. Shear then faced Lucas Cayler, of C-G-D, and fell to him by pin in 1:19 to end his day.

120 – Noah Potter, of Clear Lake, faced Hampton’s Will Varrelmann and fell by an 11-7 decision before facing Owen Mayall, of Humboldt, which he lost by a 7-1 decision. Potter then faced Brayden Burtnett, of Webster City, for fifth place. Potter got the pin in 1:56 to take fifth.

126 – Clear Lake’s Jeseb Prestholt faced Hampton’s Charlie Showalter in a match that saw Showalter get the pin in :16 seconds. Prestholt moved into consolation to face Kolton Hefti, of C-G-D, in which Prestholt fell in 1:43 by pin. Prestholt suffered a third loss to Elijah Wilhite, of Algona, by fall in :53 seconds.

132 – Aiden Hippen started his championship day off against Algona’s Ethan Bradford. Hippen pinned Bradford in 1:45 before taking on Gavin Wynkoop, of Webster City. Hippen pinned Wynkoop in 1:16 to move on against Cyler Cirks, of Humboldt. Hippen defeated Cirks by a 13-0 major decision to take first.

138 – Max Robbins, of Clear Lake, started the day against Barrett Morgan, of Algona, falling in 1:06 by pin. Robbins would face Coleton Johnson, of C-G-D, falling in 1:35. 

144 – Carter Perry, of Clear Lake, faced Iowa Falls-Alden’s Drake Sanders and was able to get the pin after a long 5:03 match. Perry then faced Jaxson Kirkhhoff, of Humboldt, which saw Perry get another pin in 3:27. In the first place match, Perry fell to Algona’s Ashton Moreno by a 9-3 decision to finish second.

150 – Tyler LeFevre, of Clear Lake, started his day against Humboldt’s Zayn Feaster. LeFevre got the win after a 6-0 decision and would go against Tate Slagle, of Algona in the first place match. Slagle was able to defeat LeFevre by fall in 4:43.

157 – Cooper Cooke, of Clear Lake, fell to C-G-D’s Caleb Seaba by fall in :33 seconds to head into consolation play. Cooke faced Iowa Falls-Alden’s Keaton Mulford but fell by fall in :42 seconds. Cooke would then face Trey Al-Hameed, of Humboldt, and fall for the third time that day in :47 seconds.

165 – Clear Lake’s Raif Baack took on Isaac Firsching, of Webster City, for his first match of the day. Baack narrowly lost in an 8-7 decision before facing Will Henle, of Iowa Falls-Alden. Baack got the pin in 3:31 to move on against Colby Jennings, of Algona. Jennings took the 7-3 decision and Baack would wrestle for fifth against C-G-D’s Selvin Gonzalez. Baack got the win after a lengthy match that ended in a pin after 5:57.

175 – Christian Dunning began his championship day against Hampton’s Brody Robertson in which Dunning won by 14-4 major decision. Dunning would take on Humboldt’s Landon Halverson next which went the way of Dunning in an 8-3 decision. In the first place match, Dunning would once again go the distance of three rounds and defeat C-G-D’s Mason Allen by a 9-0 major decision.

190 – Dylan Evenson, of Clear Lake, faced Hampton’s Cael Burmester to start his day but fell in a 13-4 major decision, moving into consolation. Reece Rankin, of Iowa Falls-Alden, was next for Evenson and the Clear Lake senior got the pin in 3:44 to face Brody Shipler, of Algona next. Shipler won by a 14-4 major decision and Evenson would face Carson Bertran of Webster City next. In the fifth place match, Evenson won by pin in 5:57.

215 – Jake Trenary, of Clear Lake, defeated Eli Estlund, of Webster City, by fall in 1:37 to face Algona’s Gavin Goche. Trenary got the win by fall in 1:58 to face Ashtin Willms, of C-G-D, in the championship bout. Willms defeated Trenary by a 9-2 decision.

285 – Max Orchard, of Clear Lake, started his day off against Humboldt’s Jack Guy in a match that saw Guy win by a 6-1 decision. Orchard then faced Algona’s Hunter Kollasch and fell by pin in 5:25. Orchard then faced Guy once more but an injury forced Orchard out in the fifth place match.
