The Lion boys basketball team stayed undefeated Tuesday, Jan. 15 after defeating the Webster City Lynx to improve to 10-0 on the season and 5-0 in the North Central Conference.
It took nearly three minutes for either team to score, but the first offensive strike came from the Lions on a Cael Stephany three, his first of many on the night.
Stephany’s five three’s on the night and one two-point score combined for 17 points, a team high, and helped the Lions overcome the Lynx after four quarters.
Thomas Meyer scored 10 points on the night as the only other Lion scorer in double digits, while also snatching 10 rebounds for a double-double.
The first quarter saw the Lions jump to a 16-8 lead over the Lynx and by halftime the Lions had grown its lead 26-16.
The second half was much of the same as the Lynx defense looked to be stifling the Lion offense but as the shot clock would wind down the Lions would find ways to score.
The Lions outscored the Lynx 16-11 in the third and by the end of the game, the Lions won 54-35.
Trevor Theobald had seven points on the night with four assists and one steal.

The Lion boys basketball team hit the road to Hampton last week where they continued the streak of 11 wins with a big 75-44 victory over the Hampton-Dumont-CAL Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs had a slight 13-12 lead over Clear lake after the first eight minutes but a massive second quarter saw the Lions score 25 more points, while holding the Bulldogs to just 13 for a halftime lead of 37-26.
The Lions kept their foot on the gas in the second-half, outscoring the Bulldogs 38-18.
Led by Titan Schmitt’s 17 points, the Lions offense shot 45.3 percent from the line, including six three’s, three of which came from Schmitt.
Thomas Meyer enjoyed 15 points on the night and a team high eight rebounds, while Dylan Litzel scored 13 points, five rebounds, two steals and one of the teams two blocks.
The Lions kept the Bulldogs shooting 42.5 percent from the field and only allowed three trips to the charity stripe. The Bulldogs could only muster three steals in the contest as the Lions secured the ball, and the win.

Humboldt 65
After multiple postponements due to weather, the Clear Lake Lions and Humboldt Wildcats were able to meet in Clear Lake Monday, Jan. 22 in a North Central Conference matchup that saw the undefeated Lions (11-0) defeat the Wildcats (9-2).
Clear Lake and Humboldt were sitting at one and two in the conference, respectively, with the Lions at 6-0 and Humboldt at 6-1.
With the 74-65 defeat, the Lions will control their destiny in the conference now with only nine games to go in the regular season.
The Lions pounced out of the gate, outscoring the Wildcats 17-11 for a slim six point lead, but the second quarter saw Humboldt find rhythm and outscore Clear Lake 20-6 for a halftime score of 33-31 in favor of the Lions.
Humboldt continued to put pressure on Clear Lake in the second half, taking a third quarter lead, 54-48.
One quarter was left to play and the Lions were in jeopardy of having their first blemish on the record.
A strong performance by Clear Lake, however, saw the Lions rally and outscore Humboldt by 15 points to jump ahead and take the late fourth quarter lead to improve to 12-0 on the season and 7-0 in the conference, while dropping the Wildcats to 9-3 on the season and 6-2 in the conference.
The Lions are in the NCC gauntlet at the end of the schedule with seven of the next nine games being conference matchups.
