Clear Lake hosted the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowgirls on Tuesday, Jan. 23.
It was a decisive win by the Lions who bounced back after a devastating loss to Humboldt just a day before, defeating the Cowgirls 56-27.
Led by Madi Ott with 17 points, the Lion offense leaned on the junior leader plenty in the first half. The Lions scored 25 points in the half, while the defense only allowed 10 total through two quarters.
The Lions continued to extend it’s lead in the second half, utilizing players from the bench as well as sophomore Ashleigh Amble. Amble joined the game and made an immediate impact for Clear Lake with the first bucket of the second half.
The Lions best quarter came in the third with 18 points scored as the Cowgirls put up 10. The Clear Lake girls finished the night on top after four quarters of play.
As a team, the Lions shot 46 percent from the field and 50 percent from the line.
Throughout the night, the Lions recorded 18 assists, five blocks, 36 rebounds and 23 steals.
Addie Doughan led the team in steals with six, while Ott and Taylor Schwenn each had four.
Ott led the team in rebounds with 11, while Ayla Johnson recorded nine and Schwenn had seven.
Clear Lake 64
St. Edmond 26
In the second match-up between the Clear Lake Lions and the St. Edmond Gaels, the Lions came out victorious once more after just over a month ago the Lions defeated the Gaels 48-22.
This time, the Lion offense came out ready, scoring 64 points, while allowing just 26 to the hosting Gaels.
The first quarter saw the Lions leading only by two, but a big second quarter saw the Lions put 26 points through the hoop. The defense only allowed six, giving the Lions a 35-13 advantage.
Coming out of the half, the Lions continued to strike, scoring 23, while allowing four.
The fourth quarter saw the Lion bench enter the game for valuable minutes after the Lions had a 58-17 lead.
Scoring six more, while allowing nine, the Lions improved to 9-7 on the season.
Four Lions reached double digit scoring with Alexis Theiss leading the way with 13 points, including two threes.
Theiss was also busy collecting four steals, two assists and a team high six rebounds.
Algona 54
Clear Lake 30
The Clear Lake Lions hit the road once more this time traveling to Algona where they faced the Bulldogs in a conference match-up.
The last meeting between the two teams saw Algona squeeze past the Lions 57-46 in Clear Lake.
The Bulldogs were once again ready for the Lions, getting the 54-30 victory. Dropping Clear Lake to 9-8 on the season and tacked on another conference loss.
The Lions were outscored in every quarter and trailed by 12 at halftime.
The Lions offense just couldn’t get going. Ashleigh Amble, however, was able to get double digits on the board with 10 total, having a perfect night at the hoop, five-for-five.
Ott recorded eight points, while Schwenn collected six.
The Lions are now 7-4 in the conference and one game ahead of Iowa Falls-Alden.
