Valentines Day ended in heartbreak for the Clear Lake Lion girls basketball team as they met up with the Roland-Story Norsemen for the second time this season, though this one was to continue through the regional bracket.
The Norsemen proved to be too much for the Lions, despite Clear Lake senior, Xada Johnson, returning to the lineup after being absent with an injury for the last few weeks.
Johnson was the leading scorer for the Lions, with six total points, making two buckets from inside the paint and two free throws.
Ayla Johnson scored four, while Madi Ott also scored four.
Taylor Schwenn and Lydia Brattrud both scored three and Alexis Theiss had one.
The Lions saw 27 turnovers on the night, plaguing the team as they struggled to get to the hoop.
The Norsemen were led by Matilde Motta who scored 19 points for Roland-Story and was the only double-digit scorer for the home team.
The Lions shot eight-of-30 on the night for a 26.7 percent efficiency, while making two-of-10 from three point territory and only three-for-eight from the free throw line.
The Lions collected six steals, while the Norsemen had 16.
While the loss meant the end of the season for the Lions, the future looks bright for the young team. Xada Johnson is the lone senior on the Lion roster this season.
