Clear Lake School District announced the hiring of a new Activities Director (AD), months after current AD Troy Tysdahl announced his resignation effective at the end of the school year.
Ben Klapperich was approved as the new activities director for the 2024-2025 school year and will have a start date of July 1, 2024
Klapperich is relocating from Charles City where he is a middle school science teacher and head boys basketball coach.
“Clear Lake athletics is no stranger to winning. My vision is not only for the entire athletic department to be consistently competitive on a local and state level, but to be recognized for its sportsmanship,” said Klapperich. “As a coach and former officiant of high school sports, I cannot emphasize enough the importance of winning in a first-class manner. High school sports and activities provide endless opportunities for lifelong lessons that I believe should resonate through a strong culture of not only the students, but the coaches and spectators as well. We have to inspire people to want to be a Lion, to support the Lions and be proud to be a Lion.”
Klapperich was selected from a pool of 16 applicants that applied for the job and in talking with colleagues of Klapperich’s, Clear Lake Community School District superintendent Doug Gee mentioned a few things that stood out about Klapperich.
“Ben is a tremendous leader who cares about kids and the kids all love him as a teacher and a coach,” said Gee.
