Records fall as girls hit the track

The track season began with broken records by junior Reese Brownlee and other great performances by the Clear Lake Lion girls track team March 5 in Mason City.

To start the short indoor season, Brownlee broke her school record in the 200 meter dash, running a 25.77, just ahead of Dowling Catholic’s Lauren McCoy who ran a 26.2.

Brownlee also broke her own record in the long jump, leading 19-00.25.

Clear Lake junior Addie Doughan saw action on the track in the 800 meter run to finish second in a 2:28.47, just a second behind Keira Anderson of Gilbert.

Clear Lake’s State Cross Country medalist Anna Feuerbach was just outside of the top three in fourth running a 2:31.34.

Clear Lake’s 4×800 meter relay team finished fourth with a time of 10:18.84, while Gilbert took first place with a sub 10 minute time of 9:55.21.

Junior Madi Ott finished 20th in the shot put, throwing for 30-09.

Southeast Polk’s Kennedy Borud took first with a 35-09.

Clear Lake Results: 200m: 14th, Madison Leisure, 29.38; 400m: 11th, Rebekah Steinbron, 1:07.77 and 25th, Lily Lilliberg, 1:10.98; Long Jump: 15th, Lilly Lilliberg, 14-08.25; Shot Put: 25th, Xada Johnson, 29-07 & 50th Nayeli Marschke, 24-08.5.

 

IATC Indoor 

Championships

Last Friday, the Lions traveled to Ames for the Indoor Championships at the Lied Recreation Center at Iowa State University.

It was another record-breaking day for Reese Brownlee as she ran the 200 meter .12 seconds faster to set a new record of 25.65.

Brownlee was also in top form in the 400 meter dash, winning by just over two seconds with a time of 56.6 over Pella’s Jacie Trine who ran a 58.61.

Brownlee’s time was a meet record and a Drake Relays standard and currently is the fatest in the state.

The 800 meter saw Anna Feuerbach take fifth with a time of 2:26.07.

Addie Doughan was champion in the 1500 meter run, finishing with a time of 5:01.49.

The 4×100 team finished seventh with a time of 53.47.

The 4×400 relay team finished 11th with a time of 4:25.52.

In the 800 sprint medley, the Lions finished 12th with a time of 2:01.12. It was Williamsburg with first place in a time of 1:52.3.

The Lions will host the North Iowa Indoor Championships on March 21.
