Clear Lake State Park Lodge and Campground closures

The Clear Lake State Park Lodge will be closed to reservations from July 1 – Sept. 30 for repairs. The State Park Campgrounds will not be accepting reservations or walk-ins from March 25 – April 30 and beginning July 8, the entire campground will be closed due to renovations.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) announced its renovation and improvement plans for Clear Lake State Park and campground at a public event held Sept. 11 at the State Park Lodge. The 86 year-old lodge, located at  5999 S. Shore Ct., in Clear Lake’s State Park, was last renovated in 1999 and the Iowa DNR is concerned about the deterioration of windows, wood, masonry and concrete.

While renovation work is being done at the Lodge, no reservations will be taken from July 1 – Sept. 30, 2024. After that time, reservations will once again be accepted. The park office has announced it will not maintain a waiting list.

The State Park Campgrounds, 6490 S. Shore Drive, will also be receiving some major upgrades including the replacement of water lines, the conversion of 52 campsites, tree plantings and other miscellaneous repairs.

The campground will be closed now through April 30, 2024. No reservations or walk-in’s will be accepted at this time. The DNR anticipates that campsites 1-115 on the north half of the campground will be 100 percent reservable from May 1 – July 7.

The entire campground will be closed for renovations beginning July 8, with campsites 116-176 closed for the remainder of the 2024 recreation season. During this time the middle of the campground will be getting new water lines and additional hydrants. Many of the “buddy” sites will be converted to pull-through sites and larger back-in sites, all with upgraded electrical. Due to campsite layout modifications, the campsite will be renumbered.

If you would like to be notified when the Lodge and/or the campground re-opens, a Clear Lake Lodge and Clear Lake Campground Google Form may be filled out at the Iowa State Parks website.
