Lions fall in home opener, bounce back against Comets with three hat tricks

The Lion boys soccer team hosted the Webster City  Lynx in the spring season opener on a chilly Thursday night last week.

Things got off to a quick start, but the Lions couldn’t find an open spot in the net The Lynx, on the other hand, were on top of their offensive production with three goals before the 20 minute mark had passed.

The Lion defense couldn’t find an answer for the high-powered Lynx, as the first half ran out, the Lynx had a commanding 5-0 lead.

The Lions hoped to produce offense in the second half.  They came up with one goal off the foot of Andrew Korenberg who had four shots on goal on the night.  These were to be the only shots on goal for the Lions.

Caleb Hall spent time in the net with seven saves and five goals allowed as the Lions dropped to 0-1 to begin the season.

Kinnick Clabaugh had one assist on the night. Adrian Ros and Jackson Eden both had one shot on the night.

 

Clear Lake 10

Charles City 0

The Lions hosted the Charles City Comets on a cold and rainy Monday evening, but it wasn’t a problem for Clear Lake as they scored five goals in the first half.

Kinnick Clabaugh had a hat trick on the night with eight shots on goal and one assist.

It was a commanding 5-0 lead for the Lions after the first 40 minutes which continued into the second half.

The Lions found the net five more times to defeat the Comets 10-0.

Andrew Korenberg scored three goals for the Lions, as did Adrian Ros, both completing the hat trick as well, while Marcelino Herreguin had one goal on the night to bring the total to 10.

Korenberg had two assists in the win. Weston Conway, Clabaugh and Herreguin each had one assist.
