On Saturday, March 23, Clear Lake High School hosted the IHSMA Solo/Small Ensemble Contest. The high school and middle school were used to host this incredibly large contest with 11 performance centers, over 50 directors and accompanists, and over 100 community volunteers.
“This was a great day for the CLHS musicians,” said vocal music instructor at CLHS. “Of the 36 vocal events that over 110 Clear Lake vocalists competed in, there were 24 Division II (Excellent) ratings and 11 Division I (Superior) ratings.
Notable achievements on the day go to Mariposa Coleman and The Clear Lake Jazz Choir who earned the Outstanding Performance Award. This award recognizes the group or individual who was deemed the best of the center by their judge. Both events will perform one more time on May 14 when they travel to Iowa State for the Outstanding Performance Showcase.
