Lion girls show promise despite 0-2 start

The Clear Lake Lion girls tennis team was able to get a couple of games in as the weather cleared up last week, traveling to Mason City and hosting Webster City.

 

Mason City 7

Clear Lake 2

The Clear Lake girls travled to Mason City last Thursday, April 4, where they fell 7-2.

In singles play, the Lions saw two matches head into three sets, both of which the Lions came out on top.

Gracey Smith, a Clear Lake freshman, saw her first tennis match and was able to shake off the nerves and get her first ever win.

Smith lost 6-2 in the first set, but bounced back with a 6-4 victory in the second and the third set saw the Lion freshman score 10-8 to win 2-1.

MaKenna Jackson, a Clear Lake junior, came out on top with a 6-1 victory in the first set before falling 5-7 in the second.

In the third game, Jackson won a close 15-13 set.

Makayla Martin lost 2-0, Paityn Enke lost 2-0, Ashley Roberts lost 2-0 and Lauryn Coleman lost 2-0.

In doubles, the Lions were unable to come out with a victory.

Martin and Enke fell 2-0, Roberts and Jackson lost 2-0 and Coleman and Smith lost 2-0.

 

Webster City 5

Clear Lake 4

The Lion girls hosted the Webster City Lynx on Friday, April 5.

It was a close, but the Lions came up short by one match, losing 5-4.

Wining for the Lions were Macey Brant (8-4), Lillianna Rodriguez (8-4), Makayla Martin (8-3) and Paityn Enke (8-1)

Ashley Roberts lost 8-4 and MaKenna Jackson lost 8-2.

In doubles, the Lions lost all three matches.

Brant and Roriguez lost 9-8, Martin and Enke fell 8-6 and Roberts and Jackson fell 8-4.
