The Clear Lake boys golf team traveled to Clarion for a triangular with Clarion-Goldfield-Dows and St. Edmond.

The Lions came out on top shooting a 166 with Cade Dillavou and Dylan Plagge both medaling with a 39 and 40, respectively.

Lion boys head coach Eric Perry still thinks they could have done better and took the struggles on his shoulders.

“We just have always struggled with this course,” said coach Eric Perry. “This is something I need to do better to prepare our team.”

On Dillavou being medalist, coach Perry also believes he has improved the most.

“When he has confidence early, he can finish well,” said coach Perry. “If I had to pick the most improved, it would be Cade. Both on the course and mental maturity.”

Plagge received co-medalist and received praise from coach Perry.

“Dylan has been playing some good golf,” said Perry. “He needs to be more consistent in his rounds to be valuable for us.”

Also for scoring Clear Lake was Gavin Roske, 43; Eli Anderson, 44; Gavin Anderson, 45; and Taylor Plagge, 51.

Junior Varsity

On the junior varsity side of the meet, the Lions were able to win with a 184, while Clarion-Goldfield-Dows was second with 232 and St. Edmond was third with 242.

“Nick Strayer and Carter Perry were medalist and runner-up, respectively,” said coach Perry. “Nick has taken advantages of his JV appearances and both have battled conditions.”

The Clear Lake boys golf team hosted a triangular at Veteran’s Memorial Golf Course Thursday, April 25, that put the Lions at 6-1 in the North Central Conference and 32-16 overall on the season. The Lions competed against Iowa Falls-Alden and Hampton-Dumont-CAL.

Eli Anderson led with a 35, which was good for one under par, Gavin Roske was second for the Lions with a 40.

“Eli showed his ability to go low. His short game propelled his low score,” said coach Perry. “To beat everyone by five strokes really gives us a good chance to win the meet. Gavin Roske was our next lowest. These victories gave us runner-up in the NCC at 6-1.”

Humboldt took the NCC champions title with a 7-0 record.

Also for Clear Lake: Taylor Plagge, 41; Gavin Anderson, 42; Dylan Plagge, 45; and Cade Dillavou, 46.

Junior Varsity

On the junior varsity side of the aisle, the Lions were able to come away with a win at 160 strokes, while Hampton-Dumont-CAL shot a 207 and Iowa Falls-Alden sat at 208.

The Lions were led by Kenny Fisher with a 37. Carter Perry and Nick Strayer were both finished at 40.

“Kenny Fisher was medalist on JV, his 37 was his second in a row,” said Perry. “Kenny plays our home course smart. Once our freshmen can do this on the road, they complete our team. Perry was runner-up medalist with a cardback.”

Taylor Plagge, Gavin Anderson and Carter Perry all played their last meet at Veterans’ Memorial Golf course for the Lions with all being varsity starters with Plagge and Anderson both 4-year starters including a state qualifier berth in 2021.
