Lion girls claim track conference title

The Clear Lake Lion track & field team traveled to Hampton last Thursday, May 2, for a North Iowa Conference showdown in which the Lions defended their title to become three-peat conference champions.

The Lion girls scored a total of 172.5 to beat second place Algona who scored 135.5. St. Edmond scored 92 points to round out the top three.

In fourth was Hampton-Dumont-CAL, Humboldt was fifth, Webster City was sixth, Iowa Fall-Alden seventh and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows was eighth.

The Lions saw plenty of top place finishes.  Reese Brownlee finished first in the 400 meter dash in a time of 59.58.

Anna Feuerbach finished first in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:25.45, followed by Addie Doughan in third with a time of 2:30.1.

Doughan came back to win the 1500 meter run in a photo finish with Humboldt’s Brynn Malo.

The winning time of 5:19.48, just edged out second place by a time of 5:18.86. Clear Lake’s Emily McLaughlin finished third with a time of 5:20.98.

The 3000 meter saw Doughan win in a time of 11:19.6.

The sprint medley team finished first in a time of 1:53.58 and was ran by Maddie Leisure, Emersyn McGrath, Lauren Englin and Reese Brownlee.

Brownlee continued to perform in the 400 meter hurdles, beating the competition by nearly five seconds in a time of 1:06.52.

Brownlee also saw a first place finish in the long jump, by over two feet, with a leap of 17-09.5.

The Lion girls compete today (Thursday, May 9) in Clear Lake for a shot to qualify for the State Track meet which is held at Drake University in Des Moines from May 16-18.
