Econofoods Pharmacy to close after 42 years

After over four decades, Econofoods Pharmacy, the pharmacy currently based in Randy’s Neighborhood Market, is closing up shop.

The pharmacy first opened in 1982 under the name Easter’s Pharmacy, until it was bought by the Nash Finch Company 10 years later. They have since served the Clear Lake community for 42 years.

It is the only pharmacy left based out of Iowa, the others are based out of a home company in Michigan. But the owners have decided it’s time to move on.

The files have been sold and the lease with Randy’s is ending, allowing them full use of the space when they’re gone.

Randy’s doesn’t currently have any plans for the space, but are looking to use it in the future.

The prescription records will be transferred to Thrifty White Pharmacy, located at 1907 Highway 18 East in Clear Lake.

The pharmacy will close permanently on Wednesday, May 29.
