The Clear Lake Lion softball team enjoyed its first win of the season with a victory over the Waverly-Shell Rock Go-Hawks Wednesday, May 22.
On Saturday, May 25, the Lions traveled to Charles City for a tournament where they saw hot bats against Clarksville but were unable to match for their first loss of the season.

The Lions started off with one run in the top of the first and held the Go-Hawks off the board until deep into the contest.
Waverly-Shell Rock put the tying run across the plate in the bottom of the fifth, before taking a two run lead with two runs in the sixth.
The Lions had one inning left to put together offense and get the first win of the season which is what happened.
The bats got hot at the top of the seventh and with four runs across the Lions were leading 5-3.
The Go-Hawks were unable to produce any offense in the seventh and the Lions took home their maiden win.
The Lions saw 25 at-bats that produced five runs off five hits which included three singles, a double and an Alivia Paine home run.
Jezzie Thompson was in the circle for the Lions pitching a complete game that included 11 strikeouts, three runs off five hits and three walks.

Clear Lake started off hot, scoring most of its runs in the first inning, catching the Clarksville Indians off-guard, scoring seven runs.
The Lion bats cooled off throughout the contest and the Indians found a way to stay calm. Scoring two in the bottom of the first, the Indians were on the board but had a long way to go.
The gap would be closed in the bottom of the second as the Lions gave up six runs which put the Indians ahead 8-7.
After exchanging a pair of runs in the third, the Lions tied the game in the top of the fourth but at the close of the inning, the Indians had found three more runs to win 12-9.
