The Clear Lake Community School’s Board of Education held a special meeting on Tuesday, June 4, to approve an agreement with the Clear Lake Education Association (CLEA) regarding a wage increase for teachers.
Clear Lake school superintendent Doug Gee has been in negotiations with the Clear Lake Education Association teacher’s union since the end of April. The Clear Lake Community School District and the CLEA finally agreed upon a $1,650 increase for full time educators for the 2024-25 fiscal year, which begins this July 1. There will also be a $500 increase to the extracurricular generator base for coaches.
The current wage negotiation was for those teachers who have been working between five and 12 years and would not receive the new state wage increase. The $1,650 represents a 3.37 percent increase, which will be factored into the new school budget.
As previously reported, new state legislation mandates that new teachers will receive $47,500 beginning with FY 2024-25, which will be bumped up to $50,000 for FY 2025-26. Teachers with 12 years of experience or more will receive $60,000 for the next school year, and be bumped up to $62,000 for the 2025/26 school year. This wage increase will be covered through Teacher Salary Supplement (TSS) money to each school district.
