The Clear Lake Lion baseball team (3-4) defeated the Central Springs Panthers (3-7) on a soggy Wednesday evening last week. The Panthers got off to a hot start, scoring four runs but the Lions kept themselves in the game with three runs of their own.
The Lion defense decided enough was enough and didn’t allow the Panthers to score again while the Lion bats found the ball and scored two runs in the second, one in the third and two more in the fourth.
The weather ended the contest after the fifth inning and with five innings played the game stood with the Lions winning 8-4.
The Lions mustered eight runs off six hits that included five singles and one double with seven RBI. Leading the Lion bats was Luke Fuhrman who recorded two runs off two hits, a single, a double and two RBI. Hudson Carney saw a walk and a hit by pitch and he scored twice.
Dylan Bieber recorded one run off one hit and two RBI, while Andrew Theiss also had one run off one hit and one RBI.
Jaxson Anderson was at-bat three times and batted in one runner. Tanner Nelson had a single and one run in his time at the plate, while Nick Strayer saw one run off one hit and one RBI.
The fielders behind Keeton Jeppeson were perfect on the night with 15 putouts and eight assists on 23 total chances. Jeppeson pitched four innings allowing four runs off three with three walks and two strike outs. Nick Haugland threw one inning and had two strike outs.

It was a comeback win of sorts for the Lions against North Central Conference opponent Webster City.
The Lions struck first in the top of the second and then increased the gap with three runs in the fourth to go up 4-0. The Lynx weren’t laying down though, scoring five to go-ahead of the Lions 5-4 after four innings.
A quiet fifth inning kept the Lions behind but a four-run sixth inning jumped the Lions ahead 8-5. In the bottom of the seventh Clear Lake held the Lynx to only two runs that allowed for the Lions to win 8-7.
The Lions recorded eight runs off nine hits with one double and seven RBI. Andrew Theiss recorded one run off two hits and three RBI to lead the batters.
Hudson Carney had two runs off one hit, Luke Fuhrman recorded two runs, Dylan Bieber recorded two runs off one hit, Keeton Jeppeson had one hit, Tanner Nelson had one run off two hits and an RBI, Nick Strayer had one hit and Wesley Wharton had one hit and one RBI.
The Lions had two errors on the night with 21 putouts and six assists on 29 total chances.
On the mound for the Lions was Andrew Theiss who received the win and Luke Fuhrman. Theiss threw five innings, allowing five runs off five hits and recording seven strike outs.
Fuhrman went two innings, allowing two runs off two hits and striking out two.
The Lynx had seven runs off seven hits in 29 at-bats and their pitching staff of Braylon Dyvig and Keegan Hisler allowed eight runs off eight hits with seven walks and seven strike outs.

The Lions faced a 6-2 Garner-Hayfield-Ventura team on Thursday, June 6 that saw the Lions win after six innings with a score of 14-4.
The Cardinals scored one run in the top of the first to which the Lions answered back with four runs of their own. The second inning, the Lions held the Cardinals before putting another four runs across the plate to lead G-H-V 8-1.
As the game began to get out of hand for the visiting Cards, the Lions added insult to injury with three more runs in the bottom of the fourth to lead 12-0. The fifth inning saw the visitor bats find some action with two runs across the plate and a third run in the top of the six. The Lions added three more in the bottom of the sixth to win it early after six.
The Lion batters recorded 10 hits that translated into 14 runs in 33 at-bats with seven singles and three doubles with a whopping 11 RBI. Jaxson Anderson, Tanner Nelson, Keeton Jeppeson and Dylan Bieber each had two RBI while Hudson Carney, Luke Fuhrman and Andrew Theiss each had one.
Carney recorded one run on two hits, Fuhrman had two runs, Bieber had two runs off two hits, Theiss had one hit, Jeppeson had two runs off two this, Nelson had one hit, Anderson had one hit, Strayer had one run off one hit and Brady Bieber had one run.
The Lions had one error on the night with 18 putouts with three assists on 22 total chances.
On the mound for the Lions and receiving the win was Jaxson Anderson who went five innings and allowed four runs off three hits and struck out seven. Tanner Nelson pitched 0.2 and collected one strike out and Wesley Wharton pitched 0.1 and walked one.
The Cardinals recorded four runs on three hits with three RBI and the fielders had four errors on the night with 17 putouts and five assists in 26 total chances.
The pitching crew went 5.2 innings allowing 14 runs off 13 hits with seven walks and four strike outs.

The Lions improved to 6-4 on the season after a 10-4 victory over another NCC opponent in the Hampton-Dumont-CAL Bulldogs Friday, June 7.
The win was a slow-burn for the Lions in the beginning as the two were tied at one each after the second but a nice three-run third put the lions ahead 4-1. The Bulldogs answered with two runs to keep things close 4-3.
Chipping away at the Bulldogs, the Lions added two more runs with one each in the fourth and fifth, but the Bulldogs continued to stick with Clear Lake with a run of their own in the bottom of the fifth to make the game 6-4. It was the sixth inning that proved to be the best inning of the night for the visiting Lions, scoring three runs and another in the seventh to put the game away.
The Lions recorded 10 runs off 10 hits with seven singles a double and nine RBI. Andrew Theiss collected four RBI for the Lions as he saw one run off two hits which included one single and one double.
Hudson Carney had a double in his one hit and included a run to go with it, Luke Fuhrman had one hit that saw two runs, an RBI and one sacrifice bunt. Dylan Bieber had two runs off one hit and one RBI, Keeton Jeppeson had one run off one hit, Tanner Nelson had two hits, one run and two RBI. Jaxson Anderson had two hits and one RBI and Dontrel Johnson saw one run.
The Lion fielders behind Carney and Fuhrman had two errors and 19 putouts with four assists in 25 total chances.
Carney Received the win after pitching five innings allowing four runs off eight hits and striking out eight, while Fuhrman relieved him for two innings allowing two hits and striking out four.

The Lions dropped a conference match-up against the Algona Bulldogs on Monday, June 10 in a game that saw the Bulldogs jump ahead early with three runs between the first two innings.
The Lion defense held strong for the remainder of the game, but a wouldn’t see much offensive production until a run came late in the sixth to put them on the board for the first time of the contest.
The Bulldogs answered back with a run of their own in the top of the seventh and were able to hold the hosting Lions to put the Lions down to 6-5 on the season.
The loss puts the Lions fifth in the North Central Conference with a 3-3 record (6-5 overall) with Algona leading the way with a 6-0 conference record (13-4 overall).
