Junior varsity softball goes 1-1-1 last week

Webster City 5

The Clear Lake junior varsity softball team tied with Webster City on June 24 with both teams scoring five runs.

Madeline McLaughlin hit a single and scored a run, Avery Puttmann scored a run, Megan Fisher hit a single and scored a run, Aspen Hill scored a run, Ava Kappmeyer scored a run and Lily Moran hit a single.

Makyla Johnson pitched all five innings for the Lions recording 10 strikeouts.

“We played really well tonight. Makyla pitched amazingly with 10 strikeouts,” said coach Christina Gerber. “Wesbter City has a good JV team and I was very proud of how we played against them tonight. Earlier in the season we lost to this team 3-15, so this game has shown the improvements we have mad throughout the season.”

 

Clear Lake 12

Iowa Falls-Alden 5

The Lion girls defeated the Iowa Falls-Alden Cadets with a decisive 12-5 victory.

McLaughlin hit two singles and scored three runs, while Avery Puttman scored three runs, Megan Fisher hit two doubles and scored one run, Aspen Hill scored one run, Ava Kappmeyer scored two runs, Kennedy LeDuc hit two singles, Bella Kappmeyer hit a single and Averie Braget scored two runs.

Makyla Johnson pitched all seven innings for the Lions recording three strikeouts.

“I am very proud of how we came out and hit the ball tonight,” said coach Gerber. “We put the ball in play and made things happen. We were able to beat a team who beat us last time 4-13.”

 

Hampton 13

Clear Lake 10

The Lions lost to the Hampton Bulldogs on June 26, closing out the week by a score of 13-10.

McLaughlin hit a single and a double scoring two runs, Puttmann hit a single and scored three runs, Fisher hit a double and two singles and scored a run, Ava Kappmeyer had a single, Lily Moran scored one run, Sienna Voortman hit a single and scored one run, Braget scored one run and Bella Kappmeyer hit a single and scored two runs.

“Tonight was a tough loss. We had to end the game due to a time limit and were unable to finish the fifth inning,” said coach Gerber. “We were consistently putting the ball in play and scoring runs, so if we were able to have had our last at-bat, the outcome of this game could have been different.”
