The Clear Lake Lion girls golf team traveled to Highland Park Golf Course in Mason City for a triangular with the Riverhawks and New Hampton Chickasaws.
The Lions came up short in the meet, placing third overall with New Hampton taking first shooting a 181 and Mason City in second with a 203. Clear Lake shot a 214.
New Hampton golfers took the top three slots with the best shot being a 40 from senior Kinsli Dahl.
The Lions saw Malinda Voortmann take fifth overall with a 50, while Shaelyn Ulrich and Elle Ebeling were in sixth with 51.
Emma Sonderman placed 14th after shooting a 62 and Mackenzie Clemens and Madison Loge took 16th and 18th with a 65 and 69, respectively.
“There were a lot of nerves and anxiousness,” said Lion head coach Colby Andrews. “I saw a lot of good things. We are very young and so is the season. We still have a lot of things to work on and improve going forward.”
The team has a large group of sophmores that coach Andrews has seen improving already throughout the young season.
“We have a large sophomore class with many of them improving already since last season,” said Andrews. “We also have a large freshman class. They will all contribute for us to accomplish our goals for the season.”
