The Clear Lake Lion boys golf team hosted a home meet against New Hampton Tuesday, April 9 and came out on top for their first win of the season.
Clear Lake freshman, Gavin Roske, shot a 36 to lead the field while teammates Eli Anderson Cade Dillavou and Dylan Plagge who were second and third, respectively.
Anderson shot a 38, while Dillavou and Plagge each shot 40.
New Hampton’s best shooter was Charlie Kriener who posted a score of 40.
Taylor Plagge was sixth overall with a 41 and Hud-son Carney rounded out the field with a 44.
The Lions saw JV action with Luke Furhman shooting a 45, Carter Perry 47, Dylan Bieber 39, Kenny Fisher 42, Jordan Ainley 47 and Nick Strayer 49.
“Our team score was a great start to the year. This is the lowest nine-hole score this team with the seniors have scored in high school,” said Lion head coach Eric Perry. “The freshman was good today, his iron play really put him in a position for birdies and his putter came through on some of those as well.”
Viking Invitational
The Lion golfers traveled to Decorah where they placed second shooting a 326, just behind Holy Family shooting a 300.
Taylor Plagge shot an 84, Gavin Anderson shot an 89, Eli Anderson shot a 75, Gavin Roske shot an 85, Cade Dillavou shot an 85 and Dylan Bieber shot an 82 after 18 holes.
Dutch Masters
The Lions took a trip to Pella for a two-day meet.
On day one, the Lions placed sixth overall with a 335, while Washington took first shooting a 312.
Taylor Plagge shot an 86, Gavin Anderson shot an 85, Eli Anderson shot a 77, Cade Dillavou shot an 89 and Dylan Bieber shot a 94.
On the second day of the meet, the Lions placed sixth again, but improved the team score by three strokes, shooting a 309.
Eli Anderson was in the top six with a 75 overall.
Taylor Plagge shot an 83, Gavin Anderson 77, Gavin Roske 78, Cade Dillavou 79 and Dylan Bieber 81.
Spencer Invite
The Lions traveled to Spencer for the Spencer Invite where they placed fifth among 15 teams with a 321.
Carroll Kuemper took the win with a 311.
Plagge shot an 82, G.Anderson shot 86, E.Anderson shot 77, Roske an 84, Dillavou shot 80 and Bieber shot an 82.
