Ames
The Clear Lake girls golf team traveled to Ames to compete in the Turkbowman Invitational that was made up of 18 teams which fielded 108 girls.
Clear Lake placed 11th in the tournament and out of the 108 girls, not one shot under 81.
Leading the Lions was Meghan DeLong who shot an 81. The Lions were at 442 as a team.
DeLong tied for first, but due to the cardback, placed second overall.
Elle Ebeling placed second for the Lions with a 112, while Mackenzie Clemens and Shaelyn Ulrich shot 124 and 125, respectively.
“The wind made for quite an interesting day. It was extremely windy and the greens were super fast,” said head Lions coach Colby Andrews. “This was the first time the whole team, besides Meghan, have played this course. It is one of the toughest in the state in my opinion.”

The Lion girls hosted their own 18-hole tournament which featured eight teams. The Lions placed third overall.
“This is the most teams we have had in this tournament since it started,” said Andrews. “In the past we have only had six teams.”
Shooting a 382 and DeLong shooting two over par for a 74, put the Lions in good position.
Three birdies throughout the 18 helped bring DeLong into the two under.
Shaelyn Ulrich shot a 99, her first time ever breaking 100 or shot under 50 in nine.
Elle Ebeling shot 103, her lowest 18-hole round in her high school tournament career. Mackenzie Clemens shot a 106.
“The team is moving in the right direction and getting better. We have got through the toughest part of the schedule. Having played at Veenker and Otter Creek and both of those being state golf course,” said Andrews. “I am seeing some good things, but as a team to get better and where I think we should be, we need to limit the big numbers during rounds. The swings look great, we need to just get stronger mentally in order to be the best we can be. Part of that comes with going through a tough regular season schedule and focusing in more when we are struggling.”
